In the spirit of postings slowing down I thought I’d share my weekend project.
My wife has a candle business and needs a more convenient way to take her set up to events. Cramming everything into her focus is like a terrible game of Tetris and she doesn’t really like to drive my other vehicles - 63 F100, 87 F150, or my land yacht crown vic
So I picked up a 4x8 utility trailer for her on the cheap. Pulled the old wood off, sanded it down, hit it with paint, and then put new wood on. I think it turned out alright.
When I got it...
Wood off
After paint...
Wood on
I still have to put a back end on it (perhaps a wooden tailgate?) then redo some wiring. Then I have to put a tow hitch on my wife’s car. Should make life much easier. It would look pretty behind my 63...

Re: Trailer Side Project
Nicely done
Perfect size to pull behind a smaller vehicle
Big enough to load up with a lot more than a trunk will hold

Looks nice, now you need a fitted tarp to go over the top. I have a 5x12 trailer I built a few years back and every year my wife has to haul yard sale stuff in plastic totes 25 miles to my daughters for their big yard sale. She has all different sized things in the trailer so it's hard to tarp it so we end up duct taping all the totes to keep the tops from flying up or off even with ratchet straps holding things down. Don't know how far your wife travels to her shows or how she packs her candles but boxes or plastic totes will still create problems if the wind gets to them. Speaking from experience.

Re: Trailer Side Project
I originally was thinking totes as well, but Ive Had issues with them even in the bed of my truck. I’m going to put some cleats on the outside and rig up a tarp cover system for her to use.

Thank God for SCHROLL buttons....lol.
While I was reading (and with the 1st picture the only one I could see) I really took a large "GULP" when I read "I think it turned out alright" AND looked at that 1st photo at the same time. THEN idiot me scrolled down and had to agree with the last photo. It DID turn out very nice. Hope you don't think hard of me for being ignorant.......somebody has to be.
I have one about the same size that I do smaller shows with, and I use RubberMaid totes. I place a row of totes (of the same size) on both sides of the trailer from front to back (2 high if I need to), pack odd size stuff in the center, then place about 3-4 folding tables on top and strap them down. That generally keeps the lids pretty well sealed and from blowing off. Just a thought
I took the remainder of my black enamel paint, thinned it like water, and brushed about 3 coats onto the wood so it would soak in and act as a preservative, to help it from turning that old gray wood color, or rotting. It's held up for 12 years.
But honestly you DID DO a great job on it. PEACE....

Finally got around to a tailgate and staining it. I might make a hinged gate later on but for now I had to make do with what I had. 4 dead bolts hold it in place. Got a gallon of redwood stain from the local hardware for $12. Can’t beat that if you don’t care about color.
Registered it and it’s ready to roll

Re: Trailer Side Project
I like that your side project is a trailer, and that you made sides for your trailer project. Symmetry!
