gas cap leakage
Ok, is there any strategy for keeping the gas inside my gas tank and not pouring down the side of the truck from the cap? I try not to fill it too full, but it's hard to be accurate. Just filled up yesterday and gas is literally pouring out when I made a right hand turn today. There must be a better way than just trying not to put too much in.

Re: gas cap leakage
You might have to try some sort of check valve filler neck
Ford... the other four letter "F" word
Chevrolet: Condition hopeless entire vehicle runs on leftover engine technology
Six cylinders make farting sounds

Re: gas cap leakage
Over the years I've seen 3 attempts to cure this problem by people using NON-vented caps, and it did. But a few months later all 3 tanks were literally SUCKED FLAT to the point you couldn't get 6 gallons of fuel in them. Wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it.
Please don't try this at home.......

Re: gas cap leakage
Do they make a gas cap like weed-eaters use ?
They have a built in "duck-bill" valve
It's basically a check valve that lets air in
But gas can't get out ...
The problem there would be pressure building up in the tank
And the pressure too much for the carb & flooding the engine out

Re: gas cap leakage
The last locking cap I had leaked like a seive. I replaced it with a new regular cap and no more leaks on the long bed,of course the turk has a more modern vented tank, out of an Isuzu, no leaks there either using the original fill neck and cap

Re: gas cap leakage
I think its a Ford thing!! When I was 7 we had a 63 Galaxie, and ever time it got filled it would splash out the back, then mom got a 72 LTD, did the same. My 63 did it also. Now I have the Mustang tank, no more leaked gas... You could try using a late mode neck with the screw on cap.

Do you have a part# or link for the one you used? I know DC has one but not sure if it’s the same as what you got.unibody madness wrote:I replaced it with a new regular cap and no more leaks

Re: gas cap leakage
Got this one today: https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/BK_7031220
No leaks on the way back to work. Will report back on results after the next fill-up.

I guess I always thought that the issue was high pressure inside the tank. But I guess low pressure is just as much of an issue.oldsmiley wrote:But a few months later all 3 tanks were literally SUCKED FLAT to the point you couldn't get 6 gallons of fuel in them.
