Dad's 62
Hello everyone. I am the proud and sad new owner of a 1962 F100 4X4 V8. My dad owned the truck for over 38 years and I was left it after he just passed away. I have been wanting this truck for the last 15 years. I am going to restore it as my personal tribute to him. He always wanted to fix it up, but he never had the time to get to it. I can't wait to get the truck to Oregon from Wyoming to start working on it. I'm sure I'll be picking a lot of your brains on this project.
Re: Dad's 62
Welcome and sorry to hear about your Dad. Lots of great info here and great people too. I'm always glad to hear about 4x4s being restored. Post some pictures.

Welcome to the site from N.W. Ohio. Since the truck is from Wyoming I'm guessing rust isn't a big problem, which will be great if that's the case. Lot's of knowledge on this site, take advantage of it.

It doesn't have any rust on it besides some surface cancer. One finder is a bit messed up, but my I found a replacement finder in the back. I do have to find the VIN on it. When my parents moved from Colorado to Wyoming the Wyoming Highway Patrol and my dad looked for 3 hours and never did find the VIN on the frame. I can get a new one stamped in if I can't find it when I look.

Vin is located on the frame rail top next to the right (passenger) inner fender. Directly above the front axle. You may need to wire brush that area off. Mine on the 63.

Just to throw this out there ... several people that have done what you are planning on, end up regretting changing the looks of the truck to new... Afterwards they say it just isn't his truck now...
Another route might be to update and improve the drive line and brakes, suspension.
Just wanted to mention this in case you hadn't considered it.
I still have my Dads truck and I don't think I will redo it.. since its the way he left it the second time he did the body and paint.
Either way have fun.

Oh I totally get the not changing the look because it won't be his truck any more. I would agree with that except that he always talked about redoing it and just never got to it. This will be my way of remembering him.
Re: Dad's 62
good deal..
I hope you can make quick progress and not get bogged down ! Once you tear in it can be hard to stop !

Should be a cool truck and having family history makes it even better. Post some photos when you can, always love seeing pictures, especially of the 4x4s.

Re: Dad's 62
Oh i know that bug. I do plan on doing a full tear down and rebuild. I want to powder coat the frame and get the cab and bed painted while off. I know it will be a long project, but as I never plan on selling it I want to do it right for my Dad.
Re: Dad's 62
Not very places have the capability to powdercoat something

Welcome from N.C.
Knowing what that truck means to you, I'm sure you'll do it justice.
It'll be a joy to watch the progress......
