You probably don't realize it but you just made a Longhorn.

I'm going to bring my rusted out old bed to you! Nice work!
Re: "Eventually" getting a new bed
only difference I believe Skido is that the Longhorns bolted together.. lol had to stretch it 4" to fit the '76 Chassis my '66 is on.. it also lets me close the tailgate now with the camper in the back.. (y)

Steve, this has been a learning curve for me and my buddy Jay.. he has done some bed floor replacements that are top notch but cutting like I wanted, shew... a lot of work and figuring..

That's what I like, build things to last a LIFE TIME. We only have one life and you sure don't want to have to do it again 3 years down the road.
But You might need a little more air in that tractor tire to lift it back onto truck.
Big job to tackle, but great results.
A little more warm weather and some FREE time and I've got a Long bed that's going to be transformed into a shorty myself....

Re: "Eventually" getting a new bed
thanks oldsmiley.. good luck on your shortening..
Re: "Eventually" getting a new bed
I'm with Oldsmiley, I shortened my bed, but that's a nice idea for matching up to the newer chassis. Do you have the hoist to put under it?

not yet 04sd.. been looking but the cash will be the immediate hurdle.. probably looking at doing the dump next spring.. a new 3 ton lift will run me about $1300 for a complete kit.. not a bad price and if I move it forward it should lift what I want it to..

Re: "Eventually" getting a new bed
got the bed set back on the frame and will have it done this week. yea!! got just a little tweeking to do and bolt it down.. decided to fix the cab corners before setting the bed back on.. still need d to work them some but bodywork is coming.. just needed the back done so I didn't need to move that heavy bed again.. welded in patches and some quick bodywork will do for me.. not too bad.. sorry for the big pics.. don't know why this time they are so big??

Not sure what you plan to haul but I'd consider reinforcing the truck frame or adding a stationary rail to spread the load when the dump lifts. I've seen a frame bend lifting a heavy load with a lift like that.

mostly gravel for the house but you never know... I will look at it but it is a 3/4 ton/one ton frame. I added extra ctoss members in it when I built the truck.. it will be stout for sure
