Last week I drove down to Pat’s for a radiator he had in a F-600....we both stood there looking at it and agreed,”Yeah that’s a good’un for sure...”......Next day I noticed the overflow tube was missing
Pulled a tube from another rad. Cleaned up the end and sanded up a shine..
Made for a nice slip together fit.....proceeded to treat it like sweating copper water pipe together.Kept the flame about two inches from the joint...solder got sucked in and sealed
Next I put the cap on and turned the radiator upside down, filled that upper part with water an hour later not a drop leaked out.....that was a simple fix and made my day.....There used to be radiator shops all over this city(K.C.) and now nobody has a clue about repairs.....it’s all about checking the computer
Also got the metal fan shroud, been working it over with a wire wheel then treating to some Rust -oleum Rust Reformer

Looking great Dan!
I gota tell you I really like that rust reformer. I have found that lightly sweating the steal before sealing with rust reformer works even better, make sure the metal cools down before priming

That's some great looking work right there. Kudos!
Not sure what this means. How do you "sweat" the steel? Forgive my ignorance.unibody madness wrote:I have found that lightly sweating the steal before sealing with rust reformer works even better...

I think he means to heat it up , to get out any moisture in the metal

Re: New Weller radiator repaired
You got it Pat
If you take a hunk of steel and hit it with a sweating torch you would use to solder copper pipe, you will see the water running out of the steel. Depending on the thickness or humidity in your area you can get quite a bit to come out. the primer will adhere better in my opinion. You have to have a light touch and let the metal cool some before priming. I believe folks who have had issues with por 15 is because of the moister trapped in the steel

I had no idea. I need to try this. I have a MAPS torch I use to sweat plumbing fittings. Is that ballpark temp?unibody madness wrote:...you will see the water running out of the steel.
