Leaf Springs

Post by aamotox »

I am restoring my 1962 F100 4x4. While working on the front suspension I noticed that the passenger side has 8 leafs and the driver side has 7 leafs. Is this typical?

Can you guys with 4x4's tell me how many leafs you have? All the replacements that I've seen have 6?

I just went outside and counted 6 springs on each side. 1962 f100 4WD. Atypical or incorrect to have different number of springs on each side. Unless PO was trying to inccorrectly adjust for a sag or other issue on one side. If that’s the case there are other issues going on from a bent frame, bad shackles, bad cab mounts, or improbable bent front axle or anything else associated with suspension.

Did it have a snow plow at one time it isn't uncommon to add leafs to compensate for the added weight.

The previous owner lived next door to my father. I'm pretty sure it never had a plow or been in an accident. My dad said he did complain about the ride. Maybe he removed a spring from the drivers side to try and soften it?

In the picture you can see the square spacer that is in bottom spring to make up for the missing one(third leaf from the top is missing). The next to the bottom leaf has a ford oval and numbers stamped on it, so I'm pretty sure its original.
