heaters ... but nothing to do with trucks.

Post by slick4x4 »

seems like the whole USA just went thru some
record setting cold weather ....
we had negative -17* stuff here in Kansas
and i know Okla Homa & Texas got hit hard also
just wanted to pass on some info with a type of heater ive had very good luck with
they need no electricity to work....
they are on a thermostat that keeps the temp constant
need no flue for the exhuast
have safety built in , such as oxygen sensor
they make "blue flame" or the red glowing radiant , such as in picture
i prefer the red, as i think they burn hotter & cleaner
they come in propane or natural gas
i have one in my basement ... set the temp to 70*
and it really keeps the floors upstairs nice
basically just mount to wall, hook line to fuel supply , and your done
can use it for supplemental heat... or just use it in emergencies
ive also got one in my porch... 60* for the plants & dogs
been in there over 15 years .... take the front grill off
and vacuum cleaner brush it about every 3-4 years

You're right about that heater, we had one in the old house and it did a really good job and that house wasn't energy efficient. We had the red radiant heater.

we had an ice storm about 10 years ago
power was out about 3-5 days for most of our area
my cousin & her husband went to salina & stayed in a hotel
because their house was cold .....
they could have bought 5 of these heaters
for what the hotel bill & the plumbers repair bill cost

I have a buddy that has one of those, and it does an awesome job heating his garage. I've thought about installing one, but then I'd need the wall space to mount it!

if you install one in a garage ... i would install it at eye level
less chance of it causing a problem with somethin
getting too close to it

I've always been a little skeptical of those vent less gas heaters. I have considered it for the garage since overhead doors aren't sealed well and thus you get more natural ventilation from those. But it sounds like you haven't had any problems - even in the house (basement).

Has it ever shut off on its safety?

they have an oxygen sensor that will turn them off
but have never had it shut down...
they usally only run on "low"
no noticable odor whatsoever...

i bought one of these for my shop ( 30'x60' ) 14' tall
to help heat it ( i also have an over head heater )
its kinda loud , but i can go out and turn both on
& the temp in the building will go up from 30* to 55* in about 20 minutes
ive had zero problems with it in 10 years
ive got it hooked to a 10' rubber propane hose
and that way i can move it around a little
and "aim" it any direction i want
