Finally Started The 352 FE To 65' 430 MEL Engine Swap

Post by chris401 »

Finally installed the 430. I ended up moving the transmission boss above the starter so I could use the FE bell housing. A few things left to clean up tomorrow. I plan on getting to the exhaust shop this Wednesday.

Never heard this exhaust note from my 65's.

Thanks', here is a link to the 383-462 MEL forum. It has photos of the mock up.

Chris,
Nice write up with pictures! That oil drain plug looks not-so-handy though!

I hope you update your progress! :thumright:

I've been driving it to town and the dump with ear plugs. The exhaust shop wanted $290 to connect the MEL manifolds where the FE headers left off. For about $300 I can buy the tools and the materials needed to make my own manifold to tailpipe. Plan on doing that by summer.

Ok, so I got tired of the noise and projects piling up in the heat. Had it done by a shop that's pretty good. Only cost $400 for the full system. Here are the photos with the center dump exhaust manifolds. Never owned a quiet Slick, been wanting to do this for years.
