Shop tools question

Post by Uncle Skip »

Has anyone here used the "wheel" dollies with any success. I've only heard negative comments so far, but they seem like a good idea.
If you have any suggestions as to kind, brand, etc. I'd appreciate the information.
Or if you have bad things to say and have a better solution, please feel free to unload................
I'm needing some way to move vehicles around an enclosed area and I need opinions before I go blow a couple of hundred bucks on something that doesn't work.
Thanks in advance.
Uncle Skip

I made mine out of square tubing that I had left over from another project. I got good 4" wheels that have rubber around the outside. The only problem with them is if they sit for an extended amount of time they get a slight flat spot on the bottom. It makes it hard to get it moving but once it does move, one person can push my 63 all around the garage. I wouldn't be caught without a set in my garage.
They are simple and really cheap to make. If you need pics let me know.

Harbor Freight has them. I've had a set for years can’t imagine being with out a set; they work fine on smooth concrete. Watch for them to go on sale. Get on their mailing list and they will send you their sale flyers. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... mber=32052

What they said and try to go with a larger diameter caster. Makes it easier if you do have any dips , cracks or joints to roll over.

I have never had a set but have known people who did. Buy the heaviest duty ones you can get, even if all you are using them on is a Pinto.

I've only seen them used on the TV shows, with a nice smooth floor. They seem to roll smoothly. Probably wouldn't work quite as well on a driveway as a garage.

They have helped me a lot on my pickup and torino. It sure did make it easier while switching cabs to slide the new frame under the cab. If there are cracks in the floor you will have problems. Also cat litter can slow you down some but that's an easy fix. Just backup and push harder allways works for me. I bought mine at Big lots serveral years back, I think they were $40 for the set. They sure have helped around my shop but they do have a lot of shelf time. Don't spend to much on them.
