BED RUG?

Post by Gritsngumbo »

Has anyone installed the Bed Rug product in their slick? I know they don't specifically make a model for the early models, but you guys are so innovative I thought surely someone has done it. (I saw a truck on e-bay a while back where the guy had modified a Ranger drop in bedliner to fit his slick...looked great. I'm not interested in just putting carpet from the home improvement store.

I have been wondering if there is a drop in liner that will fit a Slick, or might be cut to fit. Something to cover from the top of the wheel houses to the floor, you know the "problem areas". I'm not sure I want to spend the time patching mine, my quarters are good though and a bed liner could get me going till I found a good box. The bed rug may work too, I'd be interested in seeing some solutions.

Here's a link to the e-bay listing with the modified Ranger drop in. Scroll down for the photos. Looks really good. Owner's response was "modified late model Ranger to fit". I can't make out the brand name and I can't see any cuts from the fender wells forward.

That bedliner looks like a good fit, I didn't realize that a Ranger bed was as wide as a Slick bed. I'm going to have to take a look at one.

At the F100 Supernationals a few years back, there was a guy with a 66 shortbed that was using the drop-in bedliner from a 88-98 Chebby/GMC truck. According to him, you either had to remove the 2 front stake pockets from your bed or trim the bedliner to clear them. I don't know this for sure as I have never tried it. Looked good in his though. Those trucks are old enough and of the right pedigree to have lots of them in junkyards now. Maybe on a junkyard sale day or garage sale you could pick one up cheap enough to experiment.
If you drove a Ford, you wouldn't need a good wrench!

So I'm thinking...if it looks like the 88-98 Brand X trucks will fit (after measuring and double checking), then I should be able to purchase a Bed Rug for one of those models and come close???

Thanks. Can't find any mention of custom sizes on the Bed Rug website. I sent them an e-mail last week, but haven't heard back. Maybe I'll get better response if I just call, or check with the local dealer.

Prolly time to get out the tape measure and see what will work out of their available models. I'd measure Ford, Chevys etc.

Yeah, probably check out some used truck lots on Sunday and
do some measuring (particularly the wheel wells) to see what comes close to my bed.

Bed Rug makes one specifically for our trucks (at least they did). They didn't list it, but when I called them directly, the phone person was able to look it up. I've had mine in the back of the 65 Merc Shortbox for more than five years. Has held up to the elements (Rain and heat) just fine. A bit pricey, tho...

Thanks! That's the kind of information I was looking for. I know they are pricy, but nothing's too good for my slick. LOL
