302+Aod price?

Post by Motocentro »

A cat on Craigslist wants to sell an 88 Mark VII with the AOD for $500 and I pull it. . .

Not quite sure how I feel about it -- includes all accessories, runs. He's got 2 and says I can crank them there.

I feel like that's a mite high. . .How about you? he said I could pull the motor for 400.

Thanks,

That sounds pretty good for a running motor and trans. I paid $300 for a complete 302 that didn't run.

If it wasn't on 8 Track it's not worth listning too

That's a roller block, isn't it? If 302 & AOD are in decent shape not too a bad price. I sold a 302 2V core long block w/all accesories for $100. It was going to need a complete tear down and rebuild. And the accessories were only good for cores.

You could go over and check them out, do a compression test, check fluids, etc. Or if you got time, might wait and see what else comes along. AOD's are a little tricky to get dialed in. I got one in my 71, & would have been a lot easier to go with a C4.

I bought mine in a complete 1991 F150 for $175.00 with an original one owner 159,000 km on it. Runs n drives like a dream

that way I got all the wiring fuel system etc etc that goes with a swap.

I think I want to ditch the AOD anyway, and figure I could unload it for $150 or so. I'm going to carb the thing and only need the alternator (I might plumb in the AC and Install powersteering later on. . .

One more question: Doesn't the 302 bolt straight up to the 3 speed bellhousing (i'm currently running a 3-speed)?

OH - The 89 LSC engine was the mustang 5.0 HO w 225HP and 300lb.ft , so if it runs it'll do until I get that stroker kit. . .

u would really like the AOD for mileage and less drone from the high rpm of a standard trans.
The EFI is really easy as well, and makes driveability o so nice

no more pump hold choke screw around to start stuff either, just turn the key, hot or cold

Ahh. . .I have to stick with the 5-speed plan. I live in the city (not the suburbs, not off the highway). I drive block to block, stop sign to stop sign, light to light. The actual time that my rides spend in OD is maybe 25% of running time.

The difference in automatic mileage and manual mileage is most fully realized when you can shift yourself as quickly and readily as you like to.

So I'll be selling off the AOD. . .that is if I make it out and pull the assembly before someone else beats me to it

As far as the carb is concerned - It's just a quick patch until I can get the fuel tank straight, all the extra components I'll need before I megasquirt the machine. . .I'm going for the best possible mileage I can get and I want to customize the fuel consumption to my "unique" style of driving.
