7.3L Diesel Flaw - For Tom Flashback ?

WASHINGTON - Ford Motor Co. said Thursday it is recalling 1.17 million trucks, sport utility vehicles and vans to fix an engine sensor that could lead to engine stalling.

The recalled vehicles are all from the 1997-2003 model years with 7.3 liter diesel engines, including the Ford E-Series van, Excursion full-size sport utility vehicle, and F-450 Super Duty and F-550 Super Duty trucks.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a posting on its Web site that the camshaft position sensor located on the engine could function intermittently and lead to an engine stall and potential crash.

The sensor is an electrical component that helps regulate the fuel going into the engine.

This isn't a new issue, it's just now an official recall. Any 7.3L Powerstroke owner that knows his way around an engine bay has known about it since they've owned their trucks. I keep a spare CPS in my glovebox. It cost under $50 and it can be easily replaced alongside the road.

yup my CPS took a shit several years ago but cost me over 280 bucks for the part. glad I dont own it anymore, tooooooo expensive

You buy it from a Ford dealer? Parts are typically much cheaper at the International dealer.

I worked at the ford dealer, lol there isnt an international dealer that I even know of anywhere near that place. I am sure by now the part has gotten MUCH cheaper, but that was not the only problem, I would end up paying 200-300 bucks for any part under the hood, those are the cheap parts. diesels keep mechanics busy thats for sure, and parts guys rich
