just out of curiousity what class do you have to enter with them hoosiers? they dont like us using anything but DOT Slicks or Street Radials in any of the street classes up here

Haha funny you should say that.Here it's frowned upon if you have regular radials on the vehicle(they tear the rubber off the starting pad)I have run the dirt tires in street class and have also run a few bracket classes (ET 1 and PRO).Like i said they look identical to M/T Sportsmans but are real soft compound (have to hook in the dirt)In the pics at the track it has true drag slicks on it.

thats sort of what I was getting at, We race in a ET Bracket style Event where DOT slicks only are allowed. or any DOT tire for that matter, Full slicks only allowed in other ET bracket classes but this one specifically designates the DOT only. I was curious as to how your Track conducted itself compared to others. some places you can not race in the groove or even touch the waterbox unless you have atleast a DOT slick. most of the guys on my Team run MT sportsmans they last about 3,000 to 4,000 miles and are driven to the track and home and around town :lol:

They are pretty easy going as long as they look like street tires for a street tire class they let you run them.I'm not a regular racer just go to a couple of events a year and usually put true drag slicks on anyway.I like the Hoosiers for the street because i think it would be downright dangerous with regular radials on it.

Just watched video for the 20th time, that is one sweet truck you have there , just the way i'm doing mine. How do you like the volare frontend? Just put one under mine.

Cool glad you liked the vid.The Volare front has it's good and bad points.I like the fact that you still retain the stock front frame so that the rad support lines back up where it is suppose to,was able to set the ride hight without messing with springs and the ride is great.The down side it is very bulky i had to run manual steering to fit the headers in (79 f150 460 headers slipped right in) the power steering box is huge.I find the track width is a little narrow exspecially with the skinny wheels i have on it,i have heard that a Diplomat/Caravelle front end is a bit wider (Don't know for sure) I relly don't like my motor mount set up if i was to do it again i would redesign them (not the front ends fault but the fabricators) All in all for what it cost me to do the conversion i'm happy with it.

Thanks for feedback, i'm kind of kicking around manual steering also, but i'm a little concerned obut my wife having a hard time with it. Since i'm going with a small block maybe it won't be quite as bad. I also wondered about trying to adapt a rack and pinion to it.

Been away from the computer for a while,anyway adapting a rack probably isn't impossible i was looking at that too,but with a small block you should have enough room for the power steering.Just comes down to trial and error.

I have been researching the rack thing , i can probably make it work, but i don't think it would look right. I went ahead and stuck the motor in and the only problem i am going to have the oil filter hitting steering box. So i think i can solve that problem with either a remote oil filter( which i'm not crazy about) or, i found a bracket that puts the oil filter at a 90 degree angle , so that might work.
