bunny hop mania!!!
well I tried to spin out on asphalt with the ol 63 and she spun then started to hop, what gives,, little bit of smoke and alot of bounce,, bout shook the bolts loose!!,, what to do??
It's called wheel hop or axle wrap. When the tires hook up, it causes the rear end to wrap up, making the leaf springs "S" shapped. Then the tire looses traction and the axle snaps back into place.
Are your rear shocks worn out? Do you have an open differential or a limited slip? You could add traction bars, or ladder bars to help keep this from happening.

223's have a lot of torque, always remember that. The guy I use to build drive lines when I need them has a drive line hanging on his wall that is twisted beyond belief. It is from a 300 6 bone stock. He claims most of the twisted drive lines he replaces are from the 6 cylinder trucks and cars. You might want to inspect your U joints now after experencing axle wrap and wheel hop. That can be very hard on them.
Those 223's are great engines very hard to beat.

Funny, my little 223 must be even more worn out than I thought. I have to wind the poor little thing up to even get it to move out of the slight dip it sleeps in in the driveway.
One day I'd like to drive a decent 223 and see what its actually supposed to feel like. I dont have any plans to rebuild mine as I plan on putting a 240/300 in instead. (that engine is still sitting in the back of the '66 waiting for me to get the time to find a proper transmission for it

yeah,
yeah she definatly has the torque,, checked the u joints and they are fine
my motot has been rebuilt a year ago and seems as strong as she was when she first fired,,,couple of small upgrades include the twist on oil filter paper air cleaner, new oil breather,,

Wait until you have to replace the clutch at $80 a disc, that will learn ya.
Also, I have seen several guys over the year with slappers on a six.
this was always the response
that was kind of the 70's version of this

Lyman is right.

torque and the gear ratios are what make the 6 move off the line with a load.
after all in the 60s these did truck work, not brodies.
i cant hardly break my 292 and 4.56 rear loose in the snow. put any weight in the bed and its likely not going to happen.have to give lots of gas before it even wants to slide around corners.
this is a good thing and i am quite happy about it.
you want to spin put in some 3.50 gears and you will have no problem.

sayin no problem getting it to slide around? or vice versa? The 223s came coupled with a 3.89 punkin, made it even torquier... I wasnt impressed with mine though. the 390 slides around corners easy. still hard to burn out straight ahead, without holding the brakes, (well, with the 2.75 in)ICEMAN6166 wrote: you want to spin put in some 3.50 gears and you will have no problem.
I've done a lot of playing around in high power, sliding, etc and have never experienced said wheel hop... I did onetime do a nice fishtail going sharp around a turn, hit a patch of sand, and almost killed a mail box- 223 installed, no sway bars yet...
'63 with 390 & lots of juice. But never enough. Always want more.

What are slappers? and what do you have against 6's?

throwing slappers on a six was the old school version of buying stickers for your ricer. Never made it one iota faster., it just weighed 100 lbs more.
add one of these, good for at least 50 horse, and you were in nurd's paradise
