heater hoses

Post by crewzinforabrewzin »

seen on an earlier post about heater hoses that you can can get convetion heat in the cab if hoses are hooked up backwards.
i think mine are wrong and just wanted to double check before switching them around.
the way mine are now is with the inside hose closet to engine with the valve goin to thermostast housin and the fender side hose running to the water pump. i do seem to get a god amount of heat inside the cab.
also can someone tell me more about this valve and is there a specific setting it should be adjusted to?

Now, I may have this wrong, but I think that the hose with the valve is supposed to be hooked up to the thermostat housing, as you describe. The return comes back to the waterpump.

Stands to reason that you want your hottest water (top of the engine, just before the thermostat on its way to the radiator to be cooled back off) going to the heater core.

Course I could have it backwards.

I wonder if your valve is not closing all the way. Mine opperates freely and its closed when the wire is extended (ie, when the knob is pushed in, inside the cab).

cd you are right.

some trucks with the standard heater have a plumbing type valve on the intake by the thermostat rather than cable operated.

a cable operated water valve? eh? mine has a control wire to the defroster duct....

I thought the flow comes from the pump to the intake. That's how mine is hooked up, with a big ball valve on the pump side line. Blows nice and hot.

Seems to me though, no matter which line is hooked where, or where your valve is, it will still flow from the right place and it will still be hot.

Go ahead, rub it in. Its 28 degrees here in Kansas City now -- my wife has every bucket on the property convering the flowers and I am wondering if it will ever warm up.

I tried to bet my father it would be over 100 degrees before the end of April -- he wouldn't take me up.

Come August KC can feel like Houston, so you fellas should feel right at home!!
