Will a Bumpside tailgate fit a slick??

Post by Shiny »

So will it?
I need a tailgate for my slick and all I can find is bumpside ones.

TIA,

That truck looks great JC. I like all the wood on it don't you too JC?
Seriously I have made out with a tailgate made for about a 73 one time and it worked. I just didn't like it. But I found the 67 tailgate for 100 bucks and couldn't let it pass. It had been taken off the truck in 69,wrapped up in a blanket and stored in a barn loft until 2002 when I bought it. Its probably the most sound and perfect piece of sheetmetal on the truck. I actually like it better than the original due to the ring around the letters. BTW the taillights are out of a 67 also, thats for the backup lights.

I see Bumpside tailgates on Slicks often. I've seen Dentside gates used a couple times...those look completely wrong. :?

Thanx guys!
Glad it won't be politically incorrect to run one
Reason I asked is I'm in need of a mercury gate for my crew cab, it came with the earlier box and that even didn't have a gate on it.
JC, that merc gate is mint! Although I woulda painted it another color  :P

So does anyone know of a slick merc gate for sale or trade?

Those tailgates flow beautifully! wow. I just wish I could find a nice gate for mine for cheap... I'll probably just end up patching its rust holes and beating it flat when I get aaround to it someday....

o ya i also would like to know what the inner fenders in the merc came out of im trying to find a cost effectiv way to make mine better they are perty rusted.

Yep. bumpside gates will work. Dentsides I think will work but look wrong. However I have seen a bumpside gate on a dentside truck and that looked good... I think the stock dentside gates look ugly and they are only acceptable on a dent.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but didn't someone here at this site come up with using a bed rail to do that? I was thinking years ago before my was even half finished reading about someone here who started it. Seems like it may have been one of the PA guys. It was at the msn or maybe the yahoo site. Boy I feel old remembering stuff here years ago.
