Pics of a Merc fridge

Post by j-mac »

Dragged hubby to take a look at this neat little 1960 Custom cab Merc for sale. It's been sitting since '78, it's all there. Koooooool truck, but too rough for me, unless it were dirty dirt cheap. (Which it's not.)

But thought someone might enjoy the pics anyway.

WARNING: I wish digital cameras were this kind to MY body. What looks like surface rust in the pics is actually paper-thin and FULL O HOLES! Rust o plenty, I swear!

Very cool! Although if I were to get into one of those vintages, it would have to be a style side.
My Slick is rustier than your Slick! :D

Can't be too much cooler than a Fridge CC Flareside! I'd love to have that truck. I even like the green on it.

It's a shame that those (and the 80-96 F-150) were some of the most notorious rust buckets ford ever made, because that would be one nice (and rare) truck done up.

I know a guy who has wanted one just like it for years, it was his first vehicle and the nostaglia thing, but I doubt he is capable of bringing that one back.
It's a race.. Will hell freeze over or will JC finish his truck first. Stay tuned..

That's pretty neat, thanks for sharing those pics. :D

Do you Canadian folk see quite a few Mercs around, or is it still pretty rare to spot one?

I don't really see many of these trucks at all (57-66), nevermind the Mercs. Guess it has something to do with having nine months out of the year where it's either raining or snowing with salt covering the roads?

I see one every time I walk into my garage

oh you mean on the road?
I see about 1 every 2 days or so. Still some in daily use,, there's a 65 slick Merc 350 I see as a landscaper's truck and another tow truck. and a few bumps. Not bad considering the last ones made were in '68

Don't see many Fridges anywhere tho. Only seen a few that were Mercs, ever.

The only Merc I've ever seen was an old beat-t-crap '67 or '68 (I forget which) driving down the freeway one morning on my way to work...in about 1992. Until then, I had no idea Merc trucks even existed. When I found out that they made Merc Slicks, I just about flipped!
Like many others here, I'd love to have a Merc Slick, I don't really care which year. :)

I see one every time I walk into the garage too, as of 5:00 pm today! :D

There's a '64 and a '67 or 68 here. I found a longbed uni just outside of town, and I've seen a handful of Merc fridges. Maybe 6 or 7.

There is a '63 Merc with the fridge box on it just around the corner from me for sale. Someone wants, I can get the price and some pics. It's white, body looks fairly good, and I think it's a 292/3 on the tree. maybe a six. Seen the guy drive it quite a bit until recently. Can't recall if it has the big M on the hood, it should, but I don't think it does.

Lemme know if anyone's interested.

Fast forward a year and a half - found out that the guy finally gave the truck away for free (to someone else)... down from $2500 when I looked at it !

I even did some painting based on the truck (was totally in love with it), but haven't finished

*takes a step back and scratching my chin knowingly*

"the toes give it an extra touch of realizm. I feel its the artists way of saying... yes the machines are nice but we still have feet and the feet are what drive the machine. what is the machine without the foot that drives it? BRILLIANT!"
Being stroked is nice, but I would rather be blown!

Chrome looks decent on the grill. I like the 57's the best for this body style.
