Canucks with trucks - proof at last

Post by Hoofbeat Racer »

Hello everyone. Greetings from the almost great white north. Days are getting shorter and winter is just around the corner. Been a little truant here lately trying to get my Ranger on the road....but... I did it!!

Mad rush the past few weeks getting appraisal for insurance, registration and inspections done but she hit the road yesterday. A few little gremlins here and there but for the most part I am pretty happy. Let me say that it drives quite nice and am really enjoying the smell of burning paint. Now the real tuning begins, I need to spend some time with my carb and play around a bit. Pity its supposed to snow by the weekend. Gonna be a long winter waiting for the next road test.

These spy shots were taken a few hours ago on the edge of town. I know how important it is to keep the photo hounds at bay around here. Enjoy!

C'mon Canucks with trucks, I live farthest North. Keep the torch going! 8)

Since I never heard from you on Monday, I figured you maybe crashed and were hospitalized. Good to see it on the road, I should have a couple more weeks of cruising before the snow flys.

So how does Lori like driving it?

Nice accomplishment Mark

Nice! :thumright:

I'm lagging well behind you, but I have accomplished a few things lately that I have yet to report:

1- Fired the motor! A little boost from the battery charger, some gas down the carb, a shot of starting fluid in the air cleaner, and BRAAAAAAPP!!! Note: For a small-displacement low-compression six, the 223 is incredibly loud when it's inside a garage and running with an open exhaust manifold.

2- Found a pair of '69 pickup axles to go with the '73-up rear brakes I picked up a while ago.

Must feel nice to have it on the road. I'm still looking forward to being able to move mine under its own power!

Thanks guys, just got back from test run #2. Sorry for the night pics, daylight disappears before I can get out.

Hurst slapstick seems a little out of adjustment, the first upshift doesn't seem to go anywhere. Have to check that out. Exhaust leaks, grrr, I have tightened header bolts up twice now. Seems to be getting better. I have a definate valve noise, and I am bogging hard on initial acceleration.
Also burning a little oil on a hot startup. Heard this might be a problem with the Edelbrock heads being a little porous.

The joys

Anyways, thanks for the pats on the back, I am off to the garage to pull valve covers to see what is under door number 1. Update at 11
