Transmission swap on a 86 f250 diesel

Post by truckerdaddy66 »

I know its not a slick, but it is a ford, and I do own a great little 66 slick. I need my big truck truck back on the road.

Question is ?

Is the steel spacer plate thickness the same on the automatic and the standard ,it goes between motor and bell housing.

Thanks for any help

Not absolutely sure in your case, but they are usually interchangeable, a piece of sheet metal about 10 ga. or so. A few thousandths more or less makes no diff. If yours is obviously thicker, it might be a problem.

Thanks for reply, this piece is a big thick chunk of steel about an inch thick or so.You need it to mount the starter to it,Its not thin sheet metal like on gas engines. I'm using t18,t19,np435 type transmission granny w/transfercase

The adapter should fit the C6 and the Manual five speed and four speed big block bell patterns.

Most are not familiar with the 6.9 or the 7.3 IDI and the trans adapters. Ford did not make a bell housing specific to Internationals pattern so they used the adapter to fit the 385 series engine to transmission pattern all ready on hand.

PM Number Dummy on this board and ask for the part numbers for each the auto or manual he can give you any differences.
