Couple of Questions about my slick
Hey all got a couple more questions about my slick to throw out there. The first one is really easy I'm sure, I just haven't had the time too look into it. I need to take my dash out. I got my new harness in the mail yesterday, so the plan is to throw that sucker in there this weekend. Plus the PO felt the need to cut a hole almost 12X10 right in the middle of it to install his stereo. It looks like complete shit, and I can't find a radio to fit it! So, I'm planning on partially filling it back in. What I need to know is how to take the damn thing out! How many screws/bolts are there, and is there anything screwy about it? I know some dashes are a pain in the ass to remove...
Next is really just more of opinion type thing. I hate points ignition systems. Points annoy the hell out me honestly. My dizzy needs replaced anyways, so I was thinking about throwing in one of these

I talked to them over the phone and they said it would be a great move. Anyone else running HEI? My truck has a BB, and I'm just going through replacing all that needs it. New starter, new harness, etc, just thought maybe this would be a good addition too. Anyone have an opinion?

If I understood my brother right when he was explaining it, the dizzy I have in my 352 is an HEI style. I wanted to run electronic, but didn't want a big MSD box on the inner fender taking away from the "factory" under hood look, so we went with an electronic dizzy. Been working great so far. I got it from Summit, but don't know the part number right off.

I run HEIs in all my hotrods & performance engines & they work flawlessly.
Simple hookup (1 -12 volt 12 guage wire do not use less) can run .045 gaps
no problem-uses an 8 pole pickup .They are absolutely dead on in firing accuracy
on a distributor machine. You must use top of the line plug wires with dialectric grease
to prevent cross-firing on any electronic dizzie. They WILL fire somewhere & if not at the plugs
will fire internally in the dizzie , causing all sorts of problems.
I've bought several Pro-Comp products and they have performed as advertised.
I also recommend taking ANY dizzie to someone with a distributor machine & get it set up
with the proper advance curve for your application. This will result in better fuel mileage, power &
throttle response.
IMHO-more carbs get blamed for bad drivability problems when it is really an ignition issue.

Thanks for the info. I just put a set of ACCEL superstocks in there last weekend, would they stand up to the abuse or would I need something larger?DCarr wrote:I run HEIs in all my hotrods & performance engines & they work flawlessly.

To me, it just seems like a good idea. I know the old argument of putting GM designed parts on a ford, but I have enough wires to replace as it is, this seems like it would simplify the whole thing....

Pro-Comp isn't the only company that sells em though. On a fundamental level, are their any reasons that they don't work?36truck wrote:Read this thread it tells the story.

Okay. Well from what I have been reading it looks like the biggest issue with them is the misfires and whatnot at high RPM. I don't race my truck or even drive it all that fast. High RPM's shouldn't be an issue for me. I just don't want to deal with points or having to add any more wiring under my hood. If you check the pics in my last post (about the starter) you will see that I have my hands full with wires as it is. I'm just drawn by the fact that A) it is a one wire system. B) it eliminates my need for an external coil, so that's several wires I won't need, and C) it's affordable. I just wanted to know if there was anything to look out for. I found another guy selling them on for a little higher with a 4 year warranty, and tuned right out of the box. Bad idea?
I am a factory DSII man myself. The parts are everywere and you can do the entire system new for $200. I have 3 stock boxes that I pulled out of a yard that I can plug in at any time if for some odd reasion it fails. Same with the coil.
Like you said, you are not racing and don't realy need it from a performance stand point.
BTW, FBpete runs DSII on his 460 and runs 12s 1/4miles.

Another vote for pertronix
I had a Unilite in my '65 Stang for over 20 years without a lick of trouble, then it just died.Bill W wrote:another vote for pertronix, ya know... they even had one for my Mallory unilite dizzy, Unilite's are JUNK! 6 months of trying to figure that out!! truck would just up and die.
I now have the Pertronix with the flame thrower coil in the car and it runs just fine.
