Frame Swap Question

Post by mcarlson11 »

A guy at the Fordification asked me this question but I dont have a 4x4 so Im asking if your guys could answer his question.

I was under the impression your fixing up a 64-65 right? I wanted to ask you if the frames are the same as the bumpsides since the disk brake conversion using 73-79 works on your series also. I am researching a 64-65 body swap on to a 4x4 dentside chassis..thanks

Thanks
-Matt

The cab from a 65-66 2x4 will drop into a later 4x4 (67-79??) I am pretty sure. 61-64 are different, but can be make to work with serious alterations and skill in the part of the person doing the swap.

Concept: The cabs that went with a twin I-beam truck are fundamentally different from the earlier straight axel variety. Likewise, once the frame was changed over to a twin-I variety, the mounts for rad support and cab did not change till 79 (80??).

4x4 changed over later, so 65--66 4x4 trucks actually used the earlier cabs and frames. Think of them as 61-64 trucks.

The bolt holes and wheel base may give some trouble in the box area, though many are sucessful in "fudging" things a bit and making it look OK.
