Which Alternator????

Post by ivaf100 »

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I can't find the answer here. I have a '66 with a 390. I want to install a alternator with the integral regulator. Is there a alternator that bolts up to the original brackets? If so what did it come in? What about the existing regulator wiring? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I used a ch*** one wire. Drilled out the top hole a little larger and it fit fine.

RBC you also have to do some re-wiring. You should do a write up on that and post it in tech. Lot's of people would probably appreciate that. I've thought about doing this myself, but more important things are priority.

I have done this on several Ford motors we use to pump water for irrigation. If and when the current Alt. goes out on the 460 it will get a one wire

I'd rather have a ford alt but some one gave me a new delco, that's why I went with it.

Here is the trick to convert an original over witout to many problems. The biggest advantage is removing the oem wiring and ext. reg. Cleans up the underside and looks stock!

That does look good, I like it. That's a much better alternative to me than putting a GM alternator on. :thumright:

Now what am I gonna do to cover the holes...

...Hmmmm. Mark told me he got a "Shelby" ID tag down at the Shelby Factory..

Sorry guys,
I forgot to share that tip. The ol Falcon boys did ok and I thought I would see more of that type of thing already done. It does work and cleans the inside of the eng. room up a bit.
