thanks for all the hints!
My large front/middle piece went in just fine.
I then wetted the 2 corner pieces for about a day - it was also VERY humid outside.
Those 2 corner pieces also went in just fine.

It wasn't until I tried the piece above the back window that I had problems.
I wetted it and everything.

It seemed too big to me so maybe the next time i'll trim some off as was previously suggested.

I also think I had too many clips I was trying to work with.
The kit came with 10 clips and I thought maybe I needed to use most of them.
Looking back at it, 4 or 5 would have been plenty.

the instructions with the kit sucked and didn't explain anything.
Thank goodness for this board.

I'll be better prepared next time.

What a bummer breaking your headliner, at least Dennis Carpenter did right by you. I have bought from him before and they have always been stand up people. The good news is the headliner is available from repo vendors. The headliner for my truck was not available from any after marker people and are hard to find. The good news is they are made of fiberglass and are pretty tough. The bad news is that they are one piece and when some dummy needed to remove one to repair a cab light or an air horn they most would just simple break a chunk out of the area where they wanted to work, thus ruining the headliner. I had a devil of a time finding a good one. I had a friend in Michigan that had one and I met him in Amarillo Texas and picked it up when he was on his way to Arizona.

The pieces in the cab corners are cardboard same as yours, I just painted them and reused them. The black plug next to the dome light fills a hole where someone had drilled a hole for a toggle switch for the dome light. The rear cab area behind the seat where the tank would go on your trucks was open and just bare metal. I insulated it and made the fabric covered panels to finish it off

Yes, it goes through a grommet in the headliner to the air valve for the air horns.
