I like the look, IMHO I believe that the rear axle has to move up more though, look at a burb and they have a lot of rear overhang compared with the front. Would be easier to move in thight areas with a shorter wheelbase. I like the window version also, would be a cool truck!!
??maybe use a N hat and add vista cruiser windows up top! prolly look very top heavy though!!! Sorta like those 60's buses with the step up in the roof for windows.

Rear axle position doesn't look anymore off balance than short Uni with the full roof taken into the view - very cool. You biuld it just like that and it will look coach builder (ie Stageway) made IMHO) You can a little more box off of it and it would be cool too. 1966 Ford Expedition? this is what I would be thinking proportioning it, very cool I think. It's not going to have the "feel" of a so called regular panel, but at least as cool in it's own right.

Slick panel
[b][i]I found this pic of a uni ambulance which could be a panel really easily. Roof is too tall for a panel, but you get the idea.
Only pic I have of it tho. Does this look anything like you are wanting to do, Greg? TR

In basic terms it's what I'm planning but the execution is WAY off. For one I would keep the Uni 1/4 extensions, the back of mine wont be that "van like" either - think more like a 57 Nomad and you will be a little closer to my "vision". I will be starting to work on the model of it pretty soon, I'll start posting some pics after it shows the direction in my models album in my photobucket.

Here's another ambulance photo, but TruckRat's shows the lines better. I kept it as it showed how the painted grill was painted.

You don't need a "Crewburban" for a hot tub. In fact you don't need a hot tub. Just line a Slick bed with a large sheet of black plastic and fill it with water.

I like the sound of that. I thought about wordplay on it as well but the spelling looks all wrong. Slixpedition, Slixplorer.
Maybe a custom plate that just says ... crwbrb
Dunno.
Wait, I got it ... it's an SUV (Slick Utility Vehicle). Yeah, I like that!

I agree that the rear axle needs to move forward. I paid attention to every 4 door car & SUV that I saw today. All of them had the rear wheel well cutting into the back door which give more room for a longer rear end to give it better proportions without making the whole vehicle too long. I would also re-work that upper door post area between the front & rear doors. I looks extremely bulky and has no flow.

That's the way the crew cabs were built. Guess if you're going to modify and build a back cover, you may as well go all the way and redesign the doors.

Yeah, Grits, I know that's the way they were built but to me they look like Ford was only thinking utility when they put that together without any regard for design or style. Looks like they just tacked on an extra cab and left it at that. If you compare with the crewcabs of today you can see they designed them to be a 4 door truck so the front and rear doors blend together like they were meant to be there. So, it seems like if he's going to go to the trouble to make a Slick SUV then it would be cool to really put some thought into all aspects of the design & proportion, including the doors. JMHO. Otherwise, he could just weld a snugtop on it and call it a day! LOL!

That is the way they were built...it's not as extreme as the black and white drawing makes it appear though.
There is a little bit of an angle on the front edge of the back door windows. See:
Not planning on cutting into the rear doors like the modern SUV's do. I will probably move the rear axle a bit closer to the rear door though and allow more of an overhang.
Here's a chop I was working on from the "Coloring Book" samples I requested a long time back.
It's crude, I know...it's just a concept though.
For now.
