I am really glad and proud that you made the second post. It takes a really good person to see things differently.
I would probably never mix brands but only because I love the Y-block. For me it is a nostalgic thing.
I can also afford to rebuild the y-block, not all people can.
Being tolerant of others is a trait that will go far, and I sometimes have to force myself to remember that.
I think Uncle Skip said it rather well, one of the reasons I prefer this site over others, is because of the over all lack of drama the other sites seem to attract.

I will tell you one thing, I am so rotten at tuning motors, that when I find one for my RC airplanes I like..I stick with it

My head just doesn't retain the info it used to !

Are diesels exempt lol? I'm sorry the powerstroke is not a good fit for these, however the cummins fits nicely lol.

I think any diesel would be way cool.I have thought about putting one with twin turbos in my '68 torino.But,as we all know diesels are very pricey.Especially when perfomance parts are being thrown in one.Ah but to dream.

i'm still agree with you in theory, but i tend not to say everything that comes to mind....though one wouldn't know it by the crap i say on a daily basis.

Uncle Skip said it best. When I go to a car show, I like to see the engines. I like to see something different than a SBC. Flatheads, Y blocks, FE motors, big MOPAR mills, MEL 430's, even 409 Chevy's. I personally think Fords should be Ford powered, but thats just my opinion. When the voltage regulator and wiring harness fried to a crisp in my Mercury, even I went w/a GM one wire system. I say to each his own, depending on the project and budget...just be respectful of others........Dave

I think '62 not only got the message, he understands that we're family and he was man enough to say he might have been a little off base.
Personally, I hate brand X small blocks in anything, but hey, I'm like OBSA, just a grouchy old man who's old enough not to care if you don't like what I say.
As for diesels, I'm all about that idea. Diesels get a pass from me for sure.

I haven't put in a brand x yet, but when it comes time to rebuild a ford, its definately worth looking into. They are a dime a dozen and cost a lot less to rebuild for the same horse power. Not saying I ever will, but money is always a consideration. I've heard of brand X guys buying all the roller rockers, blower, etc.... Once they blow an engine they simply go pick up another and swap over all the goodies and away they go again.

I think this website brings a lot of different perspectives and ideas to the table when restoring these great trucks. I have seen some really solid original restorations and some restorations that are almost metal art. I think they are all awesome. Do what your budget and abilities allow you to do.

I do wonder though, where is the line when a classic vehicle, is just that, a classic vehicle and when it turns into......something else. Is a slick still a slick if the only on it original is the bed, cab, fenders and front grill? Or are they more of a "custom one-off" vehicle? I guess, if it walks like a duck and talks like a duck........right?

I know that I built a custom chopper from scratch about ten years ago and when I went to register it, they asked me what it was. I said, "I don't know......its not a harley, it's definitely not a rice rocket....." they said, we will just call it a "special custom"

For my slick, I am sticking with the 292 and 3 speed.......for now. Who knows about the future.

I guess to me, I feel the same about slicks and women, I like them all. And really like looking at pictures of them.

P.S. I am thinking I should take the 1960 Datsun truck engine I found in the junk yard back.
