Got a little time in so far this month. Rustoleum special about 1/2 done on the bed. Here's how it stands as of now:

Looks good from here . I did my boat with rustoleum and foam rollers several years ago and was quite happy with it .

Man, that is some really good work on the bed, and the rest.

The bed has me, because I have worked with some of that and it's not easy. Glad to see you have it done.

I bet that is one phase that you are really glad is over.

Rick - gald to hear someone else has gone the rustoleum foam roller route (one can read only so much on the internet). Did you clear coat after the layers of rustoleum?

Nope I didnt clearcoat but it was just a boat afterall . The boat in question was a 1970 Starcraft aluminum hull boat . I 2 toned it red and white and didnt thin the paint at all . The technique all the boat guys use though is called rolling and tipping which is pretty much that same as the car guys have picked up on only the car guys are thinning the paint and the boaters are going on full strength .

The boat doesnt need to have a perfect finish on it :D. I did maybe 2 coats of each color and was happy but thinning and color sanding does require quite a few more coats . Theres some pretty good tech on one of the Mopar sites on the technique and Hotrod magazine actually did a Falcon several years ago and wrote a tech article on it .

Thanks Rick - I have read the Mopar thread (where I got the idea) and few of the other sites. Think I'll give the clear coat and buffing a try. I've taken it this far, might s as well see how it plays out.

I really like the front end from the 64's. Seems the general consensus being 65 - 66 is the best style. Mine is not fully assembled (need to get some replacement hardware) but here's a glimpse:

Seeing it starting to come together is the best motivator to putting in the work to get it done. Dang work keeps getting in the way.

LOL if I could only figure out how to make money while playing with my toys life would be grand :D. I still for now have to go to other peoples houses to make money :D.

I wanted to ask about the frame color? Did you say you used POR-15?
I've always wanted to do a frame in something other than gloss black. I've spent a lot of time under cars and anything that is a lighter color is always easier to see and work with. Guess it's just me. :dontknow:

yes - you can get POR 15 in other than balck - silver, gray and think they have 2 shades of black.

I went with the silver to be different. Have mixed feelings on the result. The silver shows everything. So as reassembling find myself having to clean a lot. Am wondering if had gone to black, maybe marks, spots, etc would not show as much. Guess once it is done, will be moot since the frame will not be seen. I do like the look of the rear end being in silver.

I used black on my frame, but I painted the entire bottom of the truck grey por.. it was on the rotissere then, so itwas cheating I know.. however, it IS LIKE THE LIGHTS ARE ON when you are under there. it really helps...

An absolutely perfect Sunday for working on the slick. Messed around with the interior of the cab and worked on the tailgate. Here's the tailgate:

When removing the bumper of the long bed, the bolts got displaced (my fancy way of avoiding there were lost). Picked up some new bolts at the local hardward store but think I need others with more diameter so that is why the bumper looks odd. I used the box to help me position (was by myself) and just left it.

And for those with a keen eye, the color is different than my previous posts. As I indicated in the prior pictures, the color looked much better in the pictures than in real life. The picture of my bed in the earlier post of this thread looks like a nice orange but in person the color had a pinkish/magenta tint. Looking at the picture of my grill you can sort of see it more clearly by the color of the valence. It was gnawing at me so knew I had to look at another option. Found Rustoleum has a Safety Red and Safety Yellow so I blended them and the orange came out closer to real orange (in my opinion). As a result, have being doing a bit of repainting which has not really been a big deal.

The tailgate came out ok - since the truck is for the kids to tailgate at their his school football games, not going to beat myself up with the amateur tape job on the letters.

Working on the inside of the cab. PO sprayed everything black. I am going to change the lower half of the dash to white to provide some contrast. Have not decided yet whether to keep the rest black or go orange.

Next week dropping disk brakes on the front.

Good weekend - got the 302 and C4 trans dropped into the 67 Mustang. Spent some time on the F100, carb rebuilt and front brakes converted to disc. Starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Was locked in on the work and not really thinking about pictures but have 1:

I love this build! The truck is looking great. How sweet it is to have a complete parts truck to pick from.

The orange and white is cool.

You got to set me straight, here. You put on that paint with foam rollers and then sanded it smooth?

That is WAY cool.

I rolled rustoleum semi-gloss black all over my frame and under the whole body, and was surprised how nice it went on. Never thought about doing the whole body like that but I am now! 8)
