The fox body mustangs had a plastic cover that sat over the back of the speaker and installed with the speaker in the door. Of course these were ony for 6.5" speakers only.

IMO, Even with the shields, they don't hold up well in the Foxes, as well as F150's and Broncos. I'm sure the sunny South Texas weather may have something to do with that.

Paul is right. I have a shroud over my speakers, but I suspect the door slamming does the most damage.
I'm going to change to the Marine application speakers, but I'm still going to put the shroud over them.

I've replaced the door speakers in my Bronco several times, with progressively more expensive versions. The door speakers currently have NONE of the outer "foam" remaining on the cones. The side panel speakers appear and sound fine. I no longer care for Thumping bass, but do require more volume than in the past . I would like this round of replacements to last the short time until I'm totally deaf .
Can anyone recommend a brand and model of quality waterproof or marine speakers?

might look into these.The Wake board people have good tunes in their boats , and they are in a harsh Enviroment.
