Slick 60's

Hi guys! Im still alive, Ive been real busy. I havent had much time to work on the truck. But I did rebuild the pedals.

Is that por or just paint. Looks good..

Hello! Its been a long winter with little progress on the truck. I did rub out the paint and added a new master cylinder!

I cleaned the cab floor with a wire wheel and brushed on some por 15. I only painted the area that would be hidden by the factory floor mat.

Truck is in excellent shape. Mine is too, I bought mine in TX, years ago. Mine has been sitting for 15 years and now I am going through it like you to get it back on the road. It just getting cleaned and spray bombs. I am not going to feel bad about it. I look at it like I am preserving it. I cant do what other guys have. I love POR15 myself. You can really get that stuff to flow out good using a brush and heavy coat. It looks like you sprayed it when you get done. I mean like on a tank or the floor if you prep it good. Pics look really good!

So I was surfing the net and found this vintage pic! This photo inspired me to redo my grill.



So I had my friend sand blast my grill.



Then I hammerd out some dings and warps and then i primerd the grill.



Then I attacked my grill with pray paint!!!





i am very pleased with the results. In about a month i will rub out and distress (a little) the paint!

I dunno, the clean, undistressed grill would look good too. '64 grills are my favorite.

I dont know, the truck is pretty rusty and im not sure how the new grill will look mounted on the rusty mater truck. I like the 64 grill the best too. The floating rectangles are groovy!

Im excited about this new find! An original NOS glass bowl fuel pump for the 223 engine! I cant wait to install it!

That is a good find. I had an awful time finding one for my 262. I found a company that manufactures quality rebuild kits for just about every fuel pump under the sun, so I just rebuilt mine. I've heard that NOS pumps may fail sooner due to old rubber parts that are hardened from time and less able to withstand today's gasoline. Hopefully, you won't have that trouble, but if you do, their kits are very reasonable and easy to install.

Haven't times changed, when I was a kid there was no such thing as patina, there was shiny and beautiful and old and ugly and rust was an evil enemy, you avoided anything with rust and if you had something with rust you battled it with all guns loaded. It's amazing now that the rusted patina look is not only accepted it's prefered in a lot of cases and I am one of those that loves the look. I think it has a lot to do with the times were in not a lot of extra money to spend on things that aren't absolutely necessary such as paint or mag wheels see a lot of hub caps now too.viewtopic.php?f=32&t=22360#

64shortbed - I am concerned about the rubber pieces also. What I really wanted was the glass bowl thats mounted to the pump. Most rebuilt pumps today are the same pump as this NOS one except there's no glass bowl. I know that I can mount the glass bowl on to a newer rebuild if I have too.

65 shorty - You are exactly right. I'm not in the position to spend tons of money on my truck, so the patina will be around for a while.
