427 cylinder head casting numbers

Post by Uncle Skip »

Guys.
Jim here in Houston may have already asked this question, but I haven't seen it or any answers.
He's looking at a set of heads advertised as 427's and the casting number on them is C4AE-6049-H. I don't think its a 427 but I could be wrong (I am on a regular basis) .
In all my books, the only "C4" 427 casting number I can find is a C4AE-F and its listed as a high riser head.
I looked in the interchange manual and it doesn't list the "H" part number for anything but a 390 police interceptor, AE being a Ford passenger car.
Any comments or help?

I'm not arguing with you. I'm just explaining why I'm right.
Pardon me. Does your deaug bite?

Hawkrod would know about the numbers. A lot of the published info on part numbers is incorrect or incomplete.
Unless someone is restoring a 427 to original condition, I would sugest the after market Edelbrock heads. By the time I got valves, springs ,keepers ,seals, and had the machine work and seats installed I could have had a set of aluminum heads. JMO

Hi Junkyard,
You have the same numbers that I have. I do show three C4 numbers, one Hi-rise and the other two 352/390. I am not showing anything with an "H" for 1964. Hey Skip thanks for the try, maybe somebody will come in here later and unravel this mystery.
