Slick 60's

I brought this home yesterday $200.00 and I drove it home!!!! SCORE[albumimg]6133[/albumimg][albumimg]6134[/albumimg]
I have a few questions. The truck is a 1972 with disk brakes.

1. This has front and rear sway bars can I use them on my 65?
2. Should I use the brake master cylinder and booster? (It has disk brakes)
3. Are there any other parts other than I-beams and brakes that can be used off of this truck?

it may be titled as a 72, but that is at least a 73. i'm not sure what other parts you could use on your 65.

You could swap frames. then you would get a wider rear track, with 31 spline axles and have your disc brake swap done at the same time.

It would be a lot of work though.

Good score. Yes, you can use lots of parts on your 65. The hubs will be 8 lug of course, so the f250 from 65 would be the logical recipient. Brake booster, master and proportioning valve are all very useful.

Sway bars are desireable. OF course you should use them or sell them....

The steering column can be used with some mods. Does it have power steering? If so, you got a steal...

The full frame swap has some merits. But the wheel base will be different and you may have to "Z" the frame to reduce the wheel base. On the other hand, the front clip, cab from the 65 will drop right onto the 73 or 72 frame.

The rear end from the 73 can be put under a 65, so if you like the wider stance and heavier duty rear end, you CAN put the later rear end under the 65 as well. You would have to relocate the shock mounts I think. Do some measureing for sure......

It came with power steering and aftermarket AC.
I think I did good. It does have a strange set up, on the AC in the cab
A panel has been installed by the glove box for the controlls and two vents. I'll get a photo tomorrow.

I don''t know much about f-250 rear ends. Could be the 65 and 72 rears are not much different. Perhaps one of the 250 gurus will post up.

My above statements might be wrong for an f-250. They would have a Dana rear and who knows if here is much difference between 65 and 72.

9 inch rears got stronger from 65-72. I am not a Dana expert, to say the least.

dana 60 rears are the same 65-72, 73 up are wider.

That looks like a 73+ truck to me too. It looks like a "dent" side with some missing trim.

The PS column will have some differences from the 72 (and 65 of course) but the firewall brackets. PS box etc all should work. Check out www.fordification.com for their PS swap info. Most applies to 65 twin Ibeam trucks as well.

Forgot the Danas were on the F250's.

why should the earlier d60 be weaker? nothing is changed other than the axle and tube lengths.

I did not know if there was any difference. Just asking. The other post about 31 spline made me wonder.....

Well both of the Dana 60's are 4.10's so its sixes on that.
I'll be driving it 60 miles round trip to work at least two times a
week and park it next to all the new C%@&Y trucks.
I've started removing the front suspension this will take a few
weekends to get it installed. I am going to use the power steering
and the AC unit.

I was going to ask for some direction on that later.
So if you are anyone else has any information books web sites ect...
to do this job that would help. i have never torn into one before.
Butt i be readen reel gooder now ( I can follow directions )
