Hey Everybody,
We're putting a fuel-injected 460 out of a 1989 E-350 into our grandaughter's 1964 F-100. I know there's wiring harnesses out there that you can buy, but they're a bit too much for our budget.
Has anybody done a similar build--on a budget--and how did you wire it so to keep the fuel injection?

Just how old is your Grand Daughter?, I mean a 460 with FI in a truck to learn how to drive!
Honey, If I say I`ll fix something I will, there`s no need to remind me every 6 months!!

If you grab the EEC (computer) and wire harnness then it is fairly simple. Now most of the FI 460 are Bank Fired and use speed density instead of Mass Air. A really good resource for Ford FI is http://fordfuelinjection.com/?p=1. They should have a drawing of the pin out for you or at least get you really close to it. You will have to wire in power and some realys (unless you can harvest those) but it's easier to wire in new ones. The 88-92 EEC IV computers are fairly simple at least compared to the ODBII computers. Check out there wire harness for the 4.6 and you will see what I mean.
They also have a great little wire harness for $475 I think. It is a mass air setup for the 5.0 mustangs but can be modified for your application. But if you get that you might as weel convert to Mass and chip the EEC. I plan on using motes QuarterHorse http://www.moates.net/product_info.php?cPath=73_63&products_id=199 or use the tweecer (just google it).
Also check out http://www.460ford.com/forum/ if you don't already know about that site. They have some good info on the 460...
I will be converting my 64 with the 460 in it but since it's a dove block I am modifing a manifold for the FI. I do a little work on that project everyonce in a while. Take a look at bigblock ranger's site and it will show you how I am converting my intake. http://bigblockranger.com/Intakeconversion.html

it is very easy to use the entire wire harness from the 87-91 F150,250,350 truck and by doing so you get rid of the old glass fuse setup, get newer switches intermittant wipers, cruise, tilt, etc etc
Just take your time removin the harness from the cab of the donor truck, label everything, and it will go back into the slick just about as easy.
Heater and wipers take a little fiddlin because some of the wiring from the donor runs through the firewall and needs to be brought back inside
My truck is one step further - we used the entire frame and drive train from the donor so we had updated everything
Its a "slick" setup pun intended
