The Supercab plot...

I have this 1965 Supercab I got a few years ago. I like the extended cab and all the chrome goodies and cool little things about it. The engine is likely seized, it needs a new bed and front fenders, and has some serious rust issues in the floor and other areas. Some parts are missing, most others need replaced. Bringing this truck back to driving condition will take a large amount of work. I took a few more pictures of it while I was on leave.

The end result I'd like to get to is have an extended cab slick with a longbed, 4 wheel drive, one ton and diesel engine. The best plan being is putting the 65's cab onto a 94-97 F350 chassis.

The 65's cab just isn't in that great of shape. The floors are missing large portions of metal. The doors, fenders, hood, grill and bumpers all have some dents or damage. The roof is oilcanned and has rusted through in spots where holes where drilled and around the clearance lights. None of the glass is good. The right c-piller has a hole rusted through it between the windows. I am really thinking this Supercab is going to be too much work to save.

So... I bought another one! I located it about a month ago and bought it last week while on leave. It was just a short drive from my shop. It's a '64 and the cab looks to be an exact match of the '65. It's a F250 with a 351c and C6 in it from a 70's era Mercury car. Once started it runs really good; I was surprised at the power it has! It does has a little rust in the floor and other parts of the cab but not nearly what the '65 has. All the sheetmetal looks straight. The bondo on the extended cab portion is peeling up and flaking off. You can see a weldment forward of the back window. I hit any rusty or bare metal parts with a wire brush and some rusty metal primer; hence all the brown spots spray painted on. The light green paint is flaking off to reveal a much better applied root beer brown paint over what appears to be the factory light blue. The same light blue seen in the interior. Here are some pictures...

I also found a matching longbed box from a different seller. It's in good shape, but has a few poor rust repairs and minor fixes that need to be done. It had been sandblasted and epoxy primered. I doubt that I would have found a box in better shape though. I neglected to take pics of it before I wrapped it up for the winter.

The plan is still mostly the same; '64 cab on a 94-97 F350 chassis. I'll likely turn the '64 into a 'Custom Cab' using the good parts from the '65. It will be a little while before I start tearing into either truck; my new shop needs a little more work and I have a few other projects that need to get done first.

I painted my shop last week too. The colors in all these old mismatch cans turned into a pleasing greenish color.

I built the shop right before I deployed in the fall of '08. I really needed a good space for working on my projects and storing my tools and toys. Having it saves me from having to rent a place with a garage too. It's only 16x24 so getting a full size truck inside will be tight but doable. The walls are ten foot and with the vault in the trusses the ceiling peaks at 12'6". I slid two 16 foot 6x6's into the trusses about six feet apart. Those will get some hefty eye bolts every two feet so I can pick up heavy stuff like engines or truck cabs. The floor is wood; the joists are treated 2x10's on 12 inch centers with 1+1/8 plywood on top. That's on top of four treated 4x8's on pier blocks on gravel.
I was a little rushed when I built it so I will be putting the front doors on hinges, adding a few windows, insulating, and building some ramps for it as soon as I get home.

The 6x6's in the trusses...

Someone will ask... I wanted an offroader.
The rig inside there is a four door explorer waiting to get it's Dana 44 front installed and some other 4x4 mods. It was rolled so I cut the roof off; a cage will be built for it too.

I saved these pics from a for sale ad in southern Oregon several years ago. The guy called back recently saying it was still for sale $3500 I believe.

The pictures with the white roof are earlier. It has the rhino lined roof now. I've seen it for sale several times in the last ten years.

Not fair having two extended cabs when so many of us are going without.

The super cab Richard Cranium posted apears to be a little different, the added in rear 1/4 window is straighter vertically and I see a rear access panel the others don't have.

I had seen pics of the white one in Oregon before; I think it was on ebay or something. Besides the different windows, I notice the drip rails curve down at the back of the doors then go straight back. The drip rails on both of mine are completely straight. The interior access panel is different too. I think there was a green supercab on this site about a year ago; someone was swapping the front clip out on. The Supercab advertisement is new to me too.

The seller also gave me the following information;

I bought it from the original owner, which was really cool, and i have the original title. In 1976 he took out the original 292 and put in a 351 cleveland out of a new mercury. He put an automatic behind it. Apparently, there was an accident involving some flatbed train cars that lost their load of new vehicles and they were selling off the new cars cheap for parts and that's where the new Cleveland motor came in. According to the old owner, the motor and transmission only have 9000 miles on them.
The original owner told me that when he bought his, that there was a long bed version and a short bed version that came to Friendly Ford in Anchorage at the same time and that he purchased the longbed.

I don't know if my '65 was sold from Friendly Ford; but it does have some old Friendly Ford oil change stickers on the drivers door.
