After Smithville
Posted: November 21, 2009, 8:58 pm
Its been a very long day but I survived to fight another time.
Rick and I started to Smithville this morning about 7:15 am in Old Black Betty.
Cold and rainy miserable morning when it was supposed to cool and sunny.
Must have been an omen because things did NOT get better as the day progressed.
Rick's Slick died about 45 miles from home and would not start, sooooo.
We got his truck towed home around noon.
Not wanting to hear all the grief and violence about my not showing up, I got my Ranger and headed back out around 12:30.
I got to Smithville around 2:45 and was really supprised and happy about the big crowd that showed up.
BlueBolt from La. was there, Brian from Grand Prarie, Alan from Clear Lake, JeepButt, PFM, Dale S. and Frank from Pasadena, Max, RatFinkMike, Kenny 62Galaxy, and Chad "Blue Oval Fun" were all there with several more folks that I don't remember their names.
Did I say we had BBQ? Lots of BBQ.
Max has pictures.
And I got to finally meet the very special and lovely Michelle.
What a treat, and gentlemen, the price of poker has gone up considerably when you see the craftsmanship and detail on her trucks.
You better come big or stay on the porch when she shows up.
But again, despite the clearing skies and great company, things did not get better. The right front tire (14,000 mile tire) blew up and ruined my bumper and maybe the front fender on the way home just before dark.
Frank and Dale came by a little later, helped me with the tire and followed me until I could get things sorted out.
The spare only had 15 psi, so I had to limp about 25 miles to the next gas station to air it up so I could go more than 20 mph.
But as you can see, I did make it home and had a good time in spite of all the misery.
I'll access the full damage in the morning, right now I'm going to have one or several adult beverages to calm down.
Again.......
Thank you Michelle for being such a great hostess and showing us all a great time.
Thank you all for showing up and helping make it a great time.
See you all at Pate in April 2010.
Uncle Skip, licking his wounds.
