Slick 60's

This comes as no surprise to anyone who lives where they salt roads. While some trucks may develop a little rust patch here and there, a Toyota truck will have watermelon size holes all over it. I Have never been able to understand why anyone is stupid enough to continue buying them to be honest with you.

I have had Toyotas and there trucks, they are great vehicles to own but yes they were and are very prone to rust. Like most in the rust belt you should have all your vehicles undercoated no matter the make or model.

Found out my wife's HHR came from Michigan. I got under it after she brought it home and was shocked at all the rust that was on anything that wasn't painted like the exhaust hangers....serious rust I'm talking about and it's less than 4 yrs old.

Toyota also has a recall on throttle cables on the same trucks. Just heard it this morning.

the flaming floor mats of death have them recalling 3.8 million cars as well.

Remember that Prius ad on TV where the little bugger melts back into the earth? Its the same thing with those Tundras except it only takes about 4 years.

People have been brainwashed into thinking imports are better. It will take a lot to wake them up. I know around here most people don't like Tundras because of their terrible gas mileage. What blows my mind is that people buy Nissans, especially the Titans. The Titan has been rated worst truck on the market since it's introduction.
Notice the lack of Heavy Duty Jap pickup trucks? They can't cut the mustard..

The steel that a vehicle is made of makes a big difference in how it lasts. I hate popping doors on Asian steel made cars, it tears making it hard to get a bite good enough to pop the latch.

Come on guys, don't you remember these? Definitely fun to watch.

Toyota's have never been "Rust Free", when was the lst time you saw a early 80's corolla or Celica around?
I had an 1981 half-ton that I had to get rid of in '96 when the frame rusted all the way through and put a leaf spring perch into the bottom of the bed, due to a bed full of snow. (I thought it would keep the rear wheels planted... you try to dive with leaf-springs anchored on only 3 points!

But sadly toyota has been suffering a lot of quality issues these days... And I hate to say it, but they are building the cars in america... just like american cars have always been built... I'd still take a late 90's toyota Pick-up over any small American truck anyday.

Big trucks, that's a different story... Toyota could barely even make a good V6, why are they trying to build 300+ HP V8s? But I do challenge anyone to find a longer lasting 4 banger than the 22RE, those things never die.

i gess now some people might think before buying a jap trap.every time they buy one anouther plant here gets closer and closer to shutting down.there are already more than few plants shut down across america.

I grew up on the South Shore outside of Boston, that's actually the road salt capital of the world... not to mention ocean air etc etc... I think I owned one of those trucks...

Also funny, my first car was one of those Toyota branded Chevy Nova.... When was the last time you saw one of them...

a friend of mine has one, 180K on it. he bought it for $75. we installed a couple cans of spray foam in behind the back doors and seat to keep dust and water from getting in.gets 30 mpg but i hate the thing. i have driven it several times its like sitting in a covered skateboard.
