There are more options here than you can shake a 14" 1/2 drive extension at.
I did an article for Custom Classic Trucks about putting in a 22 gallon Mustang tank between the rear frame rails, and I'm pretty sure the link is on the forum somewhere.
Since then, several more guys have stepped up with their own ideas and every one of them is and example of forward thinking and great craftmanship.
I chose the 22 gallon tank because it was the largest capacity I could find that would physically fit under my truck.
More than a few have used my basic idea and improved on it as far as the location of the filler.
I'm sure Max and a few thers will chime in and show you pictures so you get the basic idea.
But be warned, what ever route you take, you need to have a little more than basic construction skills and tools.

If you can't find my article, let me know and I'll see if I can post you a link to look at.
And let me know if I can help.

This is my bronco II tank for my crew cab. The filler hose is upside down it does route over the frame rail. This is a 23 Gal tank, they do have a 33 gal tank option to go with. You can get it in EFI or Carb version.

Easy install just move that rear brace to the back of the frame and flip it upside down. stops it from interfering wtih styleside beds and adds a little more protection.
