This REALLY SUCKS..............

Flipped my new Jeep today.
4 miles south of Spencer Ia at 6:30 AM I hit a patch of ice. Rear swung to the right so fast I couldn't catch it, slid sideways right into a drift made by the plows. Right side wheels dug in and up she went. Rotated a little more than 3/4 of a turn in the air and landed on the left side in the snow bank and then rested on it's wheels. Had to have it winched out - was sunk into the drift clear up to the rockers and wouldn't move even an inch locked into low range. About 5 minutes later a guy came by and gave me a ride into the hospital in Spencer so I could make my delivery on time. Called a tow truck who picked me up and got me out - my Ins will reimburse the tow charge.
A local Slick owner has a body shop in Papillion (6 miles west of Bellevue) he and his son do alot of custom and some VERY nice work there - estimate is $3500. Passenger side is fine, one small scratch in the clear coat on the roof that will rub out, every panel on the drivers side has dents including up the D pillar will need a front bumper cap too. I didn't even get the dang plates on it yet.
Needless to say I was NOT a happy camper this morning.

Oh, Man! I'm glad you are all right. Maybe the estimate is on the high side...sorry about your vehicle.

Estimate on the high side is the only good thing. I have a $500 deductible and I want to have the grill repainted while its in the booth - has a few rock chips.

Greg, I have an 03 Liberty and that doesn't do very well on ice either. Good luck with the repairs

Thanks for the wishes guys, may have bumped my left shoulder - it's sore. They are both in pretty bad shape anyway so it may be normal. I just may wait til the weather is better to have it fixed anyway - just in case. I have rental reimbursement - I may also hold off til the Astro is up again before I put the Jeep in the shop.
When I bought the Jeep I thought;
"it'll do the job, it's in really nice shape so it'll last a long time, my crappy back likes the seat"
I have become pretty attached to it - the more I drive it the more I like it. I was pretty fond of my 92 Explorer too, I like my mid size SUVs for work and as a DD.
I just want it fixed as nice as it was when I got it. The few rock chips on the grill piece were literally it's only flaws. The paint even looks nice underneath it.

Should be about a week once it goes in the shop - 40 hours of labor figured.
It seems to drive fine (after I got what must have been 5 lbs of snow out of the wheels). Had to P/U in Sioux City on the way back in ran down I 29 fine @ 70 MPH. I told the Ins company I wanted the suspension all checked out too, it's not really designed to take loads like that, 50 MPH on the ends of the axles. Told the adjuster the exhaust must be bent, it rattles now and didn't before.
I am actually lucky it went airborn, if it had stayed on the ground it would be banged up all the way around. Didn't break any glass either.
sucks

X2 from here, Greg! Dang bad luck for you, but better the Jeep than you. Know what you mean by liking those midsize suvs. I've had my 99 Explorer going on 9 years. Runs and drives great.
Hope you are able to get it fixed up like new again. Watch that black ice.
Take care. TR
