Mine are not chrome and have been painted. I am painting some of the small pieces and want options/ideas to paint the rearview. My exterior will be blue over ivory and the interior will be the same with gray seats and grey vinyl dash.
Okay I can paint them blue to match the truck.
I can paint them ivory to accent the blue.
I can paint them black to have them not reflect
I can paint them with a texture black which will make them look plastic
I can ????????
What ya think?

I would lean towards the Ivory, since you are going two tone Blue and Ivory.

I have no idea what Ford used originally, but I think it was a silver color of some kind.
I'd use a neutral color like argent.... in fact, that is what I did use.
Looks like it belongs there and doesn't attract any attention.
Its a freaking rear view mirror, fer god's sake.

I'd recommend a medium brown of some sort. Because it's your truck and not mine.

My first '66 was bought new by my grandfather and passed down. It was the bengal tan color and the rearview mirror was the same color. My current truck was originally white, and it too has the tan rearview mirror.

The original color for the inside rear view mirrors was argent.

The ones I've had were originally a gray. I used to get a plasticoat paint color called Dove gray.matched it perfectly. The sunvisor brackets were silver.

The argent is a cross between grey and silver. It is not as shiney as silver but not as dull as grey.

What brand of paint did you get the Argent color? I've got Dupli-Color's Wheel coating which is pretty close, but it's metallic.

I painted mine red. Makes it stand out, especially in my grey cab.

The argent I bought was from the NAPA store. It was in a spray can. While it was not a perfect match, it was close enough that no one would ever know the difference unless they held up an original next to it.

Thanks.
BTW, What a coincidence running into you Michell... I stumbled upon your site for the first time a couple of days ago and really enjoyed it. Great tech and great bio!

This would be my opinion as well -- my original rear view mirror has never been repainted and it seems not really argent but a gray color. Not a battleship gray, but lighter.
The radio grill was that color I think originally as well, but I had to repaint it and did not get the color quite right. Looks OK though.....

I agree with these posts, light gray. Argent was the color used for hubcaps and front gravel shields on 64-66 custom cabs.

Just about to paint my visor brackets this morning, but before I do, I wanted to post the shots of the rear view mirror I already painted.
I got the paint from O'Reilly's, but my local store did not carry the clear coat for it. I got the clear coat from Napa. You should be able to find a store that carries both.
It is a wheel enamel, and dries hard and smooth. The clear coat really makes it pop, though. I painted some BMW wheel with it a year ago, and they still look brand-new.
It is not a dead-ringer for Argent, but for the cost, convenience and appearance, I think it's hard to beat!!
