The e-brake cable is held in place in the rear backing plate by a bunch of little "fingers" that spread out when the cable is pushed into the backing plate.
Remove them by collapsing them with a small screw clamp. Tighten the clamp and push the cable out of the hole.
I strongly recommend that any time you take a system apart like this that you take a picture or two to remind you later how it goes back together.
E-brake cables are NOT all the same length. Tag them when you remove them.
