Rose's son's 99 Mustang.
He called a locksmith to get new PATS keys made - key isn't the problem it's the transponder coil the guy said. I did a search and looked on Ebay - nothing but the keys available?
Somebody know more about this PITA setup?
Can it be disarmed (if it were my car it would be disarmed or SOLD!)
Any Ford techs out there?

Greg if you can find somebody with a tweecer or similar programmer I think it can be disabled. They do this on engine swaps. Heres another choice.

Thanks for the link. With a remote start you still have to turn on the ignition though to drive it - have to wonder if the PATS takes over again at that point. I'll call a remote start place and ask them.
I just literally hate stupid shit like this with a white hot passion. It honestly makes me want go to there - find the guy who had this so called stroke of brilliance and beat him into a pile of goo with my tire checker.

Greg, I do not know if this will help but My EX had a Lumina that once in a while would not crank. I took it to a friend at a GM dealer and he installed a resistor that bypassed the chip in the key. It did not disable the system, it just fooled it.. The resistor was $3 and he charged me $20 to install it..
I have no idea if it would work on Ford but I would guess they use a similar system..

its been a while since i installed a command start but i believe the fords used a bypass that needs an origional key that is left under the dash inside a small box that is wired into the cars security system.the car thinks the key is in the ignition permanently. i might have one at the shop ,pm me if you are interested. keith
Would this box be in the car already or is it part of Fords remote start (that is the command start right?)?
