63 f250 4x4 - Questions

Post by Gritsngumbo »

It's not like I NEED another slick...BUT I've run across a 63 F250 4X4 long/wrong bed. According to the seller is has a Dana 44 front axle (pumpkin on the driver's side) and a Dana 60 rear axle with a refurbished (not rebuilt) Y-Block and a granny 4 speed (not sure which).

Guess my question to the member is what is it? Did Ford offer a "factory" 4X4 that year? The body is very, very rough, but I would be interested in the truck for the frame and running gear only.

BTW: What's the chance a long Uni would fit on that frame?

Addendum: Another thought. Wonder if the springs and axles would bolt up to the frame of my 63 F100 Crew Cab?

yes it could be factory
ford started building their own 4x4s in 59
VIN should start wit a F26 = F250 4x4
where as a VIN on a 2WD would be F25

I think the wheelbase difference is 2 inches between the uni and the stock 4x4. On the 4x4 the front is an inch back, and the rear is an inch forward. Not sure why they did that. I'm not sure what king of frame contour issues may come up either.

On my 63 F250 4x4 the top of the frame rail behind the cab to end of frame is flat on top. Yes my 4x4 is a Ford factory 4x4. The front differential is on the drivers side of the truck. Im not sure of wheel base but if you would like I can make a measurement from center of rear to front hub for you Gritsngumbo

Don't go to any special trouble for me at this point. I'm still in the pondering stage :-) As I said, I really don't NEED another slick (I need to concentrate on getting the one's I have completed). It just caught my eye and my interest. Plus, I'm a sucker for a running Y-block in anything.
