What more could you want from a Saturday night?
Sam Adams & Primer Fumes!
(OK, I didn't take a pic of the Sam Adams).
These were picked up from my sandblaster earlier this week.

Stone guard;
I will have to clean a little primer off one end to weld up a small stress crack I didn't see.
Thankfully I am using Magnet paint on the bottom and didn't spray it yet - that is where I'll weld the crack.

Upper valance;
(forgot to get a pic bare - may have been the primer fumes or the lager);

I got the new main bearings in today and 2 of the rod bearings - I REALLY wish I had done this while the 5.0 was on a stand, LOL.
Not alot but it did take me a few hours to do - 1 hour of that was figuring a way to get the pan out between the engine and the axle, lol.
Still need to get a bronze gear for the new distributor, starter, alternator, plugs & wires, reinstall the T-5 with the clutch in place this time.
Then I can fire it up! I may have to do that before I get mufflers.

I like that too Dan.
This is what I was playing around with after I stuck the tranny in for fitting.
I just never took it back out yet.
None of these pieces have been touched yet - just set them in place.
Like I said in the other thread - I can't go any further with it until the T-5 is back in with a clutch pack. None of it will sit still well enough to figure it out any more.
I think you get the idea though;

Thanks for the ideas for the clutch guys - more on that later.
I still have 4 rod bearings to install and deal with a sensor hole in the oil pan - those will be there when I get back to it.
After spending a few weekends on some "quality time" with the Escort we are back at the 64.
I cleaned up the core support today - yea it's still a little wet.
Here are some pics of it as it sits, I'll take more as I repair it. Overall this support isn't bad - definitely a fixer. It should patch up real nice - the inner areas will be coated with Eastwood's new internal frame paint. This will be the next part of the project so I can get it blasted & primed.
I am trying to get it reassembled firewall forward next. I was also looking at the Heater-A/C on the Escort - this may work!
Here are pics as is;

Card templates will be made after it's dry to make patches from. The patches will be broke, welded, and laid over the support's bad areas, outlined then the rust will be cut out and the patches welded in.

Here is the pattern for the back side repair.
The dotted lines are where it gets bent. It will be cut, bent to shape matching it to the core support, welded together. It then will be laid in place after some cleanup, mark the support, cut the rust out, then welded in place.
After the back side is done I will make the pattern for the front etc.

What gauge metal are you going to use for your core support patches?

I have yet to measure what it's made of. Probably 16-18 ga. I may just use some scrap pieces even if they are not right. If I end up with metal 1 gauge too light for that little bit of area I seriously doubt it will matter. I just want the holes gone, lol. I'll post what I use though - and what it's made from.

A little work on the support tonight.

Cut the rust out of the back side;

Image

Drew out the pattern with a Sharpie on a piece of scrap - I think it's 14ga. I know it doesn't need to be that heavy but it also won't hurt anything and as you can see - it's a scrap.

Image

Cut the patch out.

Image

Image

I'll anneal it than shape it. I'll probably weld the bevel together before I burn it in.
I think I am going to make an adjustment to my plan and cut out the front side before I weld in the patch - just be easier.
That's it for tonight - I'm hungry, lol.

Got the basic bends done on the first patch tonight.
Not too bad - will need a little adjusting and some trimming of course.
I cut it a little oversize so I could tweak it for a real good fit.
