I live in Idaho and did not hear of his passing. I'm going to copy the article and forward it to our local TV station and hope they run it.

You are very right Pat, Hero does not describe this mans actions. I don't know if there is a word or words that could do him justice.

After reading that posting I wanted to find out more about
Capt. Freeman. Turns out he actually died on August 20, 2008.
Sad to see his passing has been usurped by people spreading
these "Shame on the media" chain letters claiming his death
coincided with Michael Jackson death or other big media event
and that he was ignored.

Wikipedia page I looked at had some good info and links to
several obituaries and honors at his actual death.

Beside his MOH actions at Battle of la Drang I was also blown away
by the circumstances under which he received his commission:
... he fought as an infantry soldier in Korea. He participated
in the Battle of Pork Chop Hill and won a battlefield commission
as one of only 14 survivors out of 257 men who made it through
the opening stages of the battle. His second lieutenant-bars
were pinned on by General James Van Fleet personally. ... He
then assumed command of B Company and led them back up
Pork Chop Hill.
