One thing for sure you won't see no truck made today that will last 45+ yrs working on the farm. :o

Is there still a Drag Strip down there in Warner Robbins?
My Dad took me there back in '79 when we stayed in Dublin.
We also went to some Sand drags in Perry.

Nice work horse of a truck you got and Welcome from South Carolina. :)

Sweet, another central Georgian! Welcome from Gordon. I have a couple of '66's. I need a few more!

Is this the only one you have?

No, been gone for quite some time. Urbanization has taken over W.R. and Byron. A bunch of peach fields now have subdivisions.

wave.gif Welcome from West Virginia.... looks like you have a great start there on a family heirloom... Some of us would still like to know your plans, even if they are not traditional or all blue. nice to know what to expect from the build if you know what I mean....

Welcome from Louisiana from a transplanted Georgia Boy (that's where the Grits part of my screen name comes from)! Looks like a nice truck. As pretty much of a traditionalist is there any way we can talk you into "restoring" this family heirloom and not changing it so much? Maybe just add disk brakes and a dual master cylinder, and possibly a power rack and pinion bolt on if you want power steering. I know it's your truck and you can do what you want with it, it would be a shame to tear that truck up. Adding a CV front cross member is going to change the dynamics of the truck and necessitate non-stock wheels (Mustang or original CV steel or aftermarket).
Maybe restore that one and get you another one to resto-mod or upgrade (because slicks are like potato chips, you can't have just one)? Or sell it to someone who would appreciate it as it is and buy yourself a nice short bed? Just my 2 cents.
If you understand what you’re doing, you’re not learning anything.

Welcome to Slick 60s.
CV swap is cool. You may some looking around here and ask some questions - you can do alot more with that straight axle than most people think.

Only one thing I can think of that a lot of us will not like and it has to do with the power plant. If this is the case I hope you got some thick skin.

Sorry to here the drag strip is gone. :(
I think I got some pictures from the event we went to there. I'll see if I can find them.

Don't feel bad Rob about your motor choice. I once had a '65 F-100 with a 327 and turbo 400. Engine sat on stock perches with a phenolic spacer on one side and the trans had a mount made. Ran like a raped ape! That was nearly 20 years ago. Now-a-days I'm more of a purist.

I'm sure I'm wasting my time and energy in writing this, as you seem to have your mind made up ;and have already started taking the truck apart. And, as I said previously, "it's your truck and you can do what you want to with it". But, I guess I just don't understand why you went through all the historical scenario in your post when it sounds like all of the original truck that will be transferred to the "new" project will be the front clip and the cab? I guess you can tell people that a few pieces of this truck came from my grandfather's truck? You do realize that if you change out the frame then you'll loose the VIN number of the "original" truck.
Since you apparently have a rolling frame, why not just pick up a front clip and cab and build the "new" truck the way you want and leave the "original" truck alone. Think beyond the present and toward the future. Maybe your son or daughter would one day like to have "great grandpa's" truck.
If you understand what you’re doing, you’re not learning anything.
