Anyone with a 302 swap using block huggers?

The place to talk Slicks. All we ask is that discussion has something to do with slicks...

Seems to be the only way I can fit flanges on the headers...

I'm using hugger headers. Same as the link..

I had two small issues but they worked out fine.

The first issue is the flange was very close to the bolt that connects the engine mount to the transdapt x-member. I had to grind the head of the bolt a bit.

The second was I had to use a "mini" starter. The headers would not bolt on with the original starter..

I ran Mustang shorties in my '72 Bump with a 351W.
Have you looked into those?

I used summit brand hugger headers. I used a starter from a 92 ford truck(gear reduction starter). It gave me more than an inch of play on the headers. Plus it was on $40 on ebay... The engine mount bolts fit OK without mods but they are close...

I have a 5.0 with the Hooker shorties shown above (cept they're black) mine is sitting on a CV IFS, but I can't imagine you could get much "snugger" than these, the are essentially exaclty like the stock 5.0 ones. I also really like them because they have the "ball" type flanges which don't require a gasket and only use 2 bolts. ball and socket flange kits are expensive, but if you can find an old H-pipe you can cut them off, that's what I did. The other nice thing is that you can rotate the pipe within the flange a little bit to get the best angle.

Headers

One other option you may want to check out is the old Tri Y headers used on early Mustangs. We put a set on my buddies 46 Ford pickup with a 302 in it and they fit great. Those are narrower than a slick in the engine bay, so I would bet they'd work. TR
