Ebay sellers

For some time, I've noticed one seller on Ebay who sells Ford parts. His items always seem to bring high prices. However, not long ago, I saw one of his items sell for an astronomical sum, and then he posted another item just the same. Namely a used custom cab chrome dash and custom cab lower panel. Beginning to wonder, but haven't checked bidding records to see who has been bidding on his stuff. Just thought it would be interesting to see if anyone else has been watching this phenomenon? I was also notified in my messages, about a lawsuit involving shill bidding, and asking if I wanted to be part of it. This message was not sent to my e-mail address, which I also found interesting.

Rich, it hasn't been from the same seller, but I have noticed those '64 dash pieces are going for crazy prices, recently. The seller I thought of immediately when I read this, was a guy in Oregon, I checked his recent sales and noticed nothing of the nature you are referring to. He seems to sell quality stuff, and has a reputation for doing so, and commands high prices on his items, on the surface. With that particular seller, I've seen him post many items that were also available at the same time from other sellers, and he always gets a good price, but it may just be that his repeat buyers trust him. Oddly, he often gets a better price for, say a used lighter, than Dennis Carpenter sells them for, new.

It will be interesting to see what happens from the shill bidding thing, BUT I think I would check that out for legitimacy with ebay, before I dove in with both feet though. Surprising it would come in your ebay messages and not by email... wonder if someone hacked eBay's messaging system.

Now , with the numbered bidders, etc, it's harder, if not impossible, to detect a shill bidder. You can't look up "Bidder 5"'s bid history and see if he is just bidding up his buddy's stuff anymore, like you used to be able to. I reported some jerks like that in England, BTW, when I was bidding on a guitar for my son a few years ago... the seller was "No longer registered" last time I checked. Now, with the numbered bidders,there is no way to cross-check.

guys who sell good quality used pieces will get repeat customers, like the one in Oregon.i am one of them, stuff was good quality used , shipping was no problem.
e-bay has changed a lot in the past several years and most of it is not for the best.

I can't complain about that seller's items either, I have bought 2. One of them being a glove box knob for which he charged me $8.50 shipping. When it arrived, the postage was $1.70, and he already got a good price from me for the knob. So, I bid his stuff with a much more jaundiced eye, now.

I quit using ebay just under a year ago. find if you look hard enough you can find most stuff in other places. You just can't be in a big hurry. Really haven't missed it!

JC often when a lawsuit is filed, it is court ordered to inform people that may have a compalint. By sticking it in my Ebay messages, on Ebay, Ebay has complied with the letter of the law. They know most people don't go there to reread any of that mail, ot not very often anyway. So they get by with a sneaky Pete notification, and fewer people involved in the lawsuit.

As to the seller, I was reffering to one not so far from me. Just a couple states from me.

I have had overall good luck on Ebay (lol, maybe too much of it, lol). There are a few Mustang vendors that sell there and 1 Ford dealer I have bought several pieces of out of print literature from. I do continue to due buisness with these people and am always satisfied, I probably wouldn't have found them if it weren't for Ebay. I am sure they will get the "issues" sorted out. I used to know someone who worked in Ebay's fraud dept, they are quite busy all the time and work very hard to keep things right. You have to remember that with all the stuff we see as a group that is only a miniscule portion of the crap that gets tryed out there. I wasn't happy about the price increase that was a subject a while ago either but it isn't free for them to try to keep things above board. PayPal/Ebay has one of their main locations right here in Omaha, don't seem to lose alot of help but are always hireing. Gotta wonder how much of that is just trying to keep up.

well i got another one of those spam e-bay e-mails today, this one telling me
that i could view my invoice for auction sales. almost $70. of course i have not sold or had any auctions in a long time so i knew it was fake, but i am really tired of and quite irritated about the continual fake e-bay garbage so i sent the real e-bay the e-mail then went and closed all my accounts. this of course gets you a reply that e-bay is doing their best to keep this from happening and they have millions of members in many countries that are happy.
i find it to be just more lip service and dont care to hear it anymore.
if they cant keep the spammers and hackers out i want no part of it.
what was once fun and made a little money is now more of a hassle than its worth.

I understand your frustration - I not only have to put up with it like you and everyone else, I have to fight with it to keep it out of work.

Although Evil Bay justly deserves that moniker, it isn't their fault. The ones doing it are the cheats and crooks, not E-bay.

E-Bay reminds me of Turkey Vulture, Buzzards, circling in the sky waiting & watching for their next great meal. Or a Morray Eel disguised in the ocean floor, waiting for just the right fish to come along. It's by the smell of the prey Predators operate. It's Money @ E-bay that carrion snackers come out to feed on from all the deal seekers.

Ya see down here we have big very large lizzards called Aligators. What they do is "eat things" they don't know or care if things they eat are peoples pets, or live stock or the people themselves, it's just things to eat, it's all just fodder to aligators. So between those two natural examples of predators, we have another, third predator, their pheremone is Money. Getting as much as they can, any way they can is more important than anything else.

Somebody once asked a notorius Bank Robber, hey why do you rob all those banks? Willy camly replied,
"Because, Thats where the money Is!" and like with E-Bay or Eeb Bay it's all about the money. Deal seekers want it and sellers want it, but the thieves & cooks seem to just take it easily away.

The only problem with your theory is that 99% of the spam eBay email does not come through eBay or have anything to do with eBay. I have 7 email accounts but only have eBay accounts on two emails (one business and one personal). All 7 email accounts get those spam messages. One account is brand new and was just set up for a website I maintain and I have never even given out the email address yet and I already got some eBay spam. It has nothing to do with your eBay acount, it only has to do with the fact that you have an email account. You will still get just as much eBay spam after closing your eBay account as you did before. The two things have nothing to do with each other. I also get tons of bank update spam and some of the banks don't even have branches in this country. Phishing spam is computer generated and if your email address has ever been posted anywhere or is an easy one for a computer to generate you will get spam no matter what. Hawkrod
