Depends on the truck, if it's a shiny well cared for truck chrome or aluminum works for me but it it's a Rat Rod or a work horse I like blacked out grilles.

Shiny trucks can be work horses too but they can't be rat rods.

Painted, these are trucks. Too much shiny stuff makes them too tame.

I vote for "all of the above". IMHO, it largely depends on what the rest of the truck looks like and what "look" you're going for.

Gerald is right, not all would look good in all circumstances. A farm truck with a chrome grille? No.

All years had a white painted grill available.
1961 had Chrome for the "bright" grill.
62-66 had aluminum for the "bright" grill.
If you see a chrome 66 grill for example it's a repop or was chromed.

Anyone know what the factory color white was? I know it was more vanilla or cream than Wimbledon white.. Corinthian maybe?

Ok.. so if your like me and dont have a fancy bright grille.. and your getting yourself a new paint job.. how many suggest pure white, the original white, or body color.. for my application most likely wimbledon white and marlin blue.. may do pure white. but, I see alot of guys doing body color.

I mostly agree with Grits and Max!, and a chrome grille needs a black back ground and Hi lights!

chrome for me thanks. even on my old farm truck. i thought i could get my original grille off in a weekend without breaking every bolt and my knuckles too i would already have a 64 aluminum grille in it. then if the money tree would sprout a handful of franklins i would be off to the plater with my 61 steel grille and front bumper.

Maybe the nicest grill I have ever seen was someone had an original painted metal grill ...chromed by a quality chroming company.

Looked much better than any factory chrome...

It really depends on the truck, love the alum and painted steel, never been a huge fan of chrome. One thing I dont like, custom grilles for these trucks!

I voted aluminum. Shiny enough to look good and not too shiny for a truck. However, I've seen all types of grilles that looked real good on the particular truck they were on. Aw what the heck, I like them all. I also like the diversity being used on these slicks. Makes for a nice feel of individualism in the hobby.

I'm facing getting the grille off the tow truck to clean it up and fix a couple of small dents. First I have to wrassle that big old push bumper out of the way. Likely won't be a one day project.

Lance, mine was painted when I first got it!, had it chemically stripped, it looked so good I had it chromed. having said that!, the front bumper was the same story. not cheap tho! :(
