Newbie from Tx

Post by eliminator46 »

Wow, I didn't know there were so many of you out there. I was invited by one of ya'lls members. I recently was given my Great Uncle's ol' 65 stepside. (Solid and minimal rust) He was a hard core cowboy and raised many cattle. I remember hawlin hay bails when I was a kid when it was only a few years old. It has duel leaf springs in back with a gooseneck. I plan to restore with some upgraded HP. I have the original title, sales sheet/list, and receipts of the checks he wrote. Nice to know where the experts are at.

Hi Adam, welcome!!

That is neat, I am the second owner of a 65 short F-100 my Uncle bought new.

If you change the title in your name do some research first.

When I took the original title to the Court House to put the truck in my name, they took the title from me.

I asked for it back and they said they had to destroy it.

I told the clerk to just forget the whole thing and I would come back later, they would not return the title.

That is the one and only time I almost got arrested.

Anyway, great news on your truck, your Grandpa would be proud.

Richard.

Yeah, welcome, like every one else said.

I left my/Dad's pickup titled in his name, even though I am kind of fudgin' the local laws a little. He still pays the insurance, and I run a Kansas tag.

I'd hate to have to give up an original 65 title.

Just tell them the original title was lost and give a bill sale or copy of the will or some legal doc that proves its yours and keep the orignal for posterity.

Welcome!!!!

You need to file for a replacement title, say you lost the original. Not sure of the forms but there is a way to get a replacement for a lost title. Then you can trade the copy for a title in your name and coincidentally find the original after the fact. Those titles are a piece of history, yet the county assessor want to destroy them.

Thanks for all the replies. I just got my kids back through a long and crazy court stay. About 6months worth and 5yrs of Hell.
I do believe I will file for a lost title. I have the Affadavit of heirship signed and stuff, and I think it will work. I want to frame all the original papers for future show purposes. Would look good setting on the slab beside it.

By the way, I have a friend that owns a 63/64 style side that his great Papa died in an accident. The cab is wasted, 6cylinder and Bed should be decent. Hood looks decent and front grill area is good. Right side is decent too. Let me know if there is an interest and I will keep him from scrapping it. A couple of hundred would probably get the rig plus a wrecker. Cleveland area.

Adam if you have the Affidavit the hard part is done. You just need to go to your closest TX DOT office and apply for a replacement in the original owners name. They should be able to print it for you on the spot. Then you can use the copy to re title in your name at the County Tax Assessor/Collectors office.

I think you will have to do a bill of sale at the County level to change it over to your name.
