May need to sell slick :-( What's it worth

Post by Southern64 »

I have been building my '64 for 5 years now, and due to a decrease in income as well as time with the birth of my son last year, I may need to sell. Is the value of these guys all in the eye of the beholder? It has a straight body, I put in a 302 with new top end and Carb, headers, exaust, auto C4, LoKar, disc brakes, power booster, new brake lines, New fuel lines/pump/big filter/fuel cell, guages, tires, shocks, ball joints, king pins, and list goes on... I probably have over 8k in the build and it really just needs a battery now. Is there a market for a truck like this, could I even expect even 1/2 what I have in to it??? Any advice on this would be great. I need to sell to buy a daily driver soon.

dont know how it is in Florida, but around here you would take a beating
i would say less than 1/2 of what you have in it , if its not a runner....
why not finish it and use it as a daily driver ?

I have over 60 miles round trip on crappy highways in a tourist area... haha the Slick would not do well. Also that 3 speed tranny would cost me a fortune in gas.

drive it, a 302 auto with power disc brakes, drive it. Try a taller rear gear if highway speed or gas milage is an issue, Just drive it!

if you've gone through the trouble to rebuild the drivetrain.. and like obsa said... drive it. Its probably more dependable than your daily you currently have.. I feel your pain about the 3 speed .. I've got a c6.. I dont daily drive it.. but I am going to swap in a taller gear for gas mileage. My wife is prego and I've already told her.. I'll sell my2004 f150 crew cab before I sell my slick. Why not.. I drive 2 miles to work. course you have 60... just means you leave earlier! You probably will never get back what you put in it. . . I had to scale my paint and body work back from a show to go because of the kiddo.. but I dont really care. I built it to drive it.. not baby it. While you might get a few bucks back. . . is it worth kickin yourself for selling it? Good luck and Hope things work out.

i don't know about fla, but there are buyers on the east coast that might travel down there to buy a rust free truck. still, i'd say if it presents well (shiny paint, etc.) i'd guess half to maybe a little over.
around here, like pat said, probably less than half.

It is difficult to value something unless you post some pictures.

What would you like to get out of it?

Sorry to hear about the tough times. Good luck!

I would go against selling. I understand the economy is tight, it has hit us to. But if you sell your Slick it will be a decision you'll regret for a long time. I say drive!

Here are some pics taken along the build, I will try and grab some recent ones. Only problem with driving it on the daily is I drop my 16 month old son off in the morning. The Slick doesn't accomidate a car seat that well, haha. I really don't want to sell, and won;t unless the right opportunity comes along, but it's an extra vehicle right now, that I would have to put insurance /registration on as well as it's never had....

That is one sweet 64! I still say drive that slick. The carseat should not be that big of an issue unless they have changed since thrity years ago when I carried my son around in my old 64.
Another thing to consider would be whike you drive it keep a for sale sign in view that truck might sale itself. But I am willing to bet that one day down the road you be telling that ole "I use to have a ........."tale

3 point seat belts and a car seat will be just fine in there.
If the fuel mileage is an issue stuff an AOD up in it.
Even finished you will likely get hurt on the money - these trucks are labor of love. Some day that may turn around - on certain pristine survivors that is starting to happen. Nice driven trucks will likely follow the trend but will lag behind.
Why not do the things you need to make it a daily driver and then sell your other vehicle. I am guessing you have something more recent that'll probably at some point just be junkyard fodder.
When I get mine on the road (by spring) it will be usable as a backup delivery vehicle with a tonneu on it.

Add a $1295 Vintage A/C as well. You don't want the kid to get heat stroke.

too much love put into that just to let somebody else enjoy it ....
if a gear swap will make it a better driver , that would be my next project.

It sounds pretty healthy to me but I never saw brake lights as you drove away.
