The bronze on the rods can sometime be factory be cause when they come out of the molds if they are not up to spec they dip them then resize them. I have even seen them on small block Chevy rods.

Thanks Steve great post I aim to try and duplicate that truck on the F100 chassis.Yours is one of the best flairsides Ive seen. That limer is one of the best little fb Ive seen. Just trying to get the 65 on the road by end of summer as a DD. Thanks urquidezp I did post a question on that over on FTE in the bigblock motor form and yourself and a few others agree it is done for weight and size issues. I had never seen that before. I disassembled alot of motors when I was in highschool working in my dads automotive machine shop dont ever recall seeing a rod like that.

Hey Bill the only things that jumped out at me as being incorrect where the door arm rests and the steering column and the steering wheel. Other than the bed unless it was a from the factory fb.Pics didnt show much of the mechanicals. Nice ride though Ill be glad if mine comes out looking half as nice seeing as where its starting from.

I know when I first saw it I thought they were cheap but my boss told me that's what they would do for size and weight.

I had a few minutes over the weekend and did a little on the 65

Put some wheels and tires on it from an 80s f that my neigbor was parting some good rubber for cheap just till she is up and running better than those worn out splits.
Image
Also got the rest of the rusted out bed and rear bumper cut off quite a difference between a 65 F100 4x4 and a 66.

Got the heater and gas tank removed. Heater needs a little more cleaning and repaint then reinstall. Gas tank was scrap it was rusted out. Will clean rust inhibit the cab then reinstall the tank with a good one.

Just a few of the way it sits now with the bed floor removed as well as the rear bumper. Quite a bit of difference between 65 F100 4x4 and 66. Ford made alot of changes in 66.

I was getting up close and personal with the front frame with a 4 1/2 angle grinder and wire wheel of course it started to rain so only got this far. I was hoping to get the whole frame done. When the frame is all cleaned por and painted I will move the white box from the 63 to this frame temporarily so the 63 frame can be worked. I can then work the 63 box from where it sits on the 65 frame. Who knows may make the 63 into the flatbed and keep the 65 with a good cab and box.

You got that right Gregg. So far Ive had to clean off the driveway about 4 times. Im pretty sure Ive moved about 30lbs of good Idaho top soil to our gardens. It took about 45 minutes just to get all the dirt that was packed into the cab corners and front kick panel wells washed out. Well worth the effort though. Its actually in alot better shape than I thought it was when I bought it.

HiBoy, Do you have an adequate air supply? If so I could drop by with my blaster and clean that up in minutes...

Steamer also. The only 2 pieces of equip I have access to.

I do have a compressor but not big enough to run air tools for any length of time. Always glad to have you stop by and blast away on this mess anytime Randy. Dont think my air supply will handle what you got thought. You might get claustrophobia in my cramped work space thought.

Next time I get some time I will be regasketing the motor with new pan timing cover oil filter, carb and valve cover gaskets. It will be time to clean and install the gauges and spruce up the interior and por the floor. Have to get some hedders ordered so when the motor is back together we can set her in and fire her up. Oh better put the gas tank I got from Backyard resto in too.
