The real key is to find a uni where the cab is too far gone..and the box is good enough...

Dan that box looks like it was a pretty easy job to get off there.
So from here you just have to close in the gaps in the the front of the
box and then start pounding out some dents here and there. As I recall
one of those tail light areas needed a little help too. Maybe I can find you
a replacement panel you can use. Might make things easier. TR

Thanks. I cut it a little on the long side so that I could cut it down to size, since it is easier to take away than to add. My next step is to turn it upside down on sawhorses in front of the shop so I can do repairs on the bottom. I think I can hammer out the dents on the back, but any help is appreciated.

The bed is in the shop. El Nino has been at work here making it rain, which is unusual in May. You can see where I reconstructed the piece that holds the sheet metal in place on the lower bed. I used 2 inch angle. I also welded a piece across the front of the bed. I did it as one piece so that it will be straight. I am going to cut the middle out of it and drop it 1/4 inch for the bed floor, which I am going to cut out of my fridge bed.

More work finished. I welded in a solid front piece so that it would be straight. I also cut through it on each side so that it would be cut out around the sheet metal ribs on each side. I cut the center back out so I could weld it back in with the drop necessary for the corrugations in the truck floor.

Image

It needed a 1/4 inch drop, so I welded a spacer made from angle scrap on each side.

Image

On the center piece I cut out the pieces that would cover the ribs and become crap catchers.

Image

I then welded the center back in. I clamped it and did some plug welds so that I would not have to keep clamping it.

So you plan to cut a section from the fridge bed to take the place
of the rotten rib section between the front and the first crossmember?
That will make that look a lot better. I knew you had planned to use pieces
from the fridge bed for that. Hope it will line up ok. Can't see why they would
make those ribs any different. They all look pretty much the same to me.
Keep putting pics up Dan, good to see that bed being reused. TR

No fridge parts yet. This is all 2 inch angle cut and welded in to replace the original sheet metal. I am going to cut a section out of the fridge bed for the front of the bed floor. I have not made it that far yet.
